I hope we can add and new resources soon. I'd like to see new resources with different yield bonuses.

some ideas:
Maize: food bonus for each civ you have helpful relationship with
Barley: Extra 10% Happiness and 2 culture in the capital during a celebration (basically a flipped version of wine)
Obsidian: Gold bonus and % reduction in unit upgrade costs
Papyrus: +2 culture (used in arts and writing), +2 production (used for sails and ropes)
Copper
Abalone: coastal resource
Toxins: damage buff to range units (poison darts/arrows) + small science bonus. If it was possible, I'd have a fun buff like toxins reducing enemy healing by 2 points for the next 3 turns after being attacked by a civ with this good, but that's just me.
Caviar: a water resource
Olives: +2 food, and +1 culture, +1 influence in capital (olive branch of peace)
Pomegranates
Bananas
Figs
Plums
Saffron
Poppies: Happiness and + units gain +1 healing per each poppy source (ancient age pain reliever)
Alabaster
Sponge
Bamboo

Good news: Easy enough to add resources. Bad news: Won't render on the map. But with Gedemon's pointers on icon adding, everything but the 3D model can be done. Good news again: Dates are in the game already!

Maybe we can use current in game models as substitutes and make new resources with their own icon. I'm thinking like using dye model for toxins and maybe recolored gold model for copper, etc. It would be a nice temp solution. I'm going to throw some ideas up, i just saw dates in the game. I added poppies to the list, since they were popular for lots of old civs including Egyptians, Greeks, Romans for pain relief.

Someone more experienced than I please correct me, but I believe they are defined in the blueprint file and that’s specifically what the mod support will remediate in this issue.

Gedemon put out how to add icons, so that covers the 2D assets, but attaching 3D assets will have to wait for mod support. (Even ones that already exist)

Worth mentioning that means resources like Lapis Lazuli that are independent power rewards can be fully added

Love your ideas, I fleshed out a few mechanically, and added a few ideas of my own below.

I hope we can add and new resources soon. I'd like to see new resources with different yield bonuses.

some ideas:
Copper: +10% towards military commanders in this city
Abalone: coastal resource +3 food +3 gold
Caviar: a water resource +3 food +2 culture
Saffron: +2 food +2 culture
Potatoes: Allows any Civ to construct the terrace farm
Rice: Allows the construction of Rice Paddies (a unique improvement on floodplains and wet tiles, +4 food)
Deer: Quarters on vegetation get +2 science (like the K'uh Nah does now)
Peat: +10% towards constructing buildings in this city
Wheat: Allows the construction of the brewery (+5 gold, +2 happiness to quarters, 1 per settlement)
Stone: Allows the construction of the megalith (unique improvement from cultural city states)
Aluminum: +10% towards city projects in this city (or aircraft, but that feels too niche)
Crabs: +1 food to fishing boats in this city
Cannabis: +7 happiness, -2 prod (can be put in towns)

In general I like the idea of resources allowing you to construct unique improvements (like the legendary Bonus Resource Improvements mod from JNR in Civ VI), with additional copies adding to production of them (like incense does already)

Long term it would also be neat to have combo resources, where they each provide a flat bonus, but when combined together in a city switch to a percentage bonus.

Guys, if you are to re-do resources, could you please change icons for all of them (for smth small and nicely looking e.g. Rome 2 DEI)? Current base game resource icons looks designed by 5yr old kid

Fun fact about resources. Lapis Lazuli - the perk from economic city states - actually just makes a lapis lazuli resource on your capital. What that means in practice is that it can’t be done with any other resource - you can’t use that mechanism to add custom resources.

It seems in this current implementation that’s the only luxury resource that’s possible that doesn’t spawn on the map in the antiquity age because of the use of this mechanic.

Trying to figure out an alternative to suit my needs now.
