Or play with only the Conquest VC option enabled, no vassals, no tech trading, no goody huts and no barbs.

That is a major challenge. For me anyway.

No barbs would make the game too easy for me. I am useless with military in civ 4. And I'm now so used to civ 5 where city defence is so much less important because they can defend themselves and you can repair improvements instead of rebuilding.

Only in the beginning. At higher difficulty levels, with no tech trading, you will be far behind in tech. Being Conquest win only....
