Drive D :
Disk properties say :
Capacity 9.58GB
Free Space 1.67GB

When I add up the space all folders(including hidden ones) take, I get only about 5.5GB, ~2.5GB less than it should be.

Drive C :
Disk properties say :
Capacity 9.58GB
Free Space 3.5GB

Adding up everything gives me only 3.5GB, 2.58GB less that it should be.

What happened to almost 5GB of space?!

Download a very useful program called TreeSize.
It will give you a very simple graphic & text display of how the space in your harddrive is divided into folders, files etc.
http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/download.shtml

It's an evaluation version. If you want to know how to make it not-evaluation, contact me by ICQ or PM. ;)

Ok, so I used this TreeSize program and it says that on drive D I have 2079.9MB in some Recycled, Nprotect thingies, and 1259.7MB of the same thing on E.

On C I have 1.7GB in System Volume Information, whatever that is.

So how do I get read of these stuff?

What OS do you use, XP Pro?

Yup.

How do I check?

The FAT also takes up space.

Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, click the System Restore tab, then see if the box is checked that says Turn off System Restore on all drives.
