Would you not think that a Civilization Fanatics' Center is a less than objective place to decide if Civilization should be given an award? 
No.
I think this is the best place this question could be asked. Everybody knows a lot about the game and has an opinion.
And if you read the subject in the forum you will see there are much more bad opinions than good ones. So people could be a civfanatic but wouldn't give an oscar to it.
Do you think it would be better to ask this question in a "simcity" group?

No, a generic game forum. Probably with a list of nominated games that they then vote for.
I voted to give Civ3 an Oscar...because I am a civfanatic. That does not mean there aren't many people out there who believe that other games deserve it more.
I'm not saying this topic shouldn't be here, merely that it won't reflect what an objective group (like, for instance, the Academy is supposed to be) would decide.

Technically, the Academy is not objective. It is composed of the people who are receiving the awards; the actors, the directors, the producers of the movies.
In any case, your point is still valid. This is called a "fun" poll, with no objective meaning whatsoever.

I'd give Civ III the Most Disappointing Game of the Year Award.
As for this forum, obviously all those many people who ripped the game here for months are long gone, so the poll is moot.
As for me, not a Civ III game goes by where I don't find another serious problem. The latest is the unit that takes forever to respond to a command - usually happens when at war in the Modern Age.

Yeah! I agree. But all in all I like Civ 3 better. Its just not as big a jump from Civ 2 as Civ 2 was from the original. But GTA 3 is a HUGE improvement from the orginal GTA (Totally Cool) and GTA 2 (not too great).
