While I like Civ 5 a lot, I have to say the opening screen / main menu just doesn't cut it when compared to 4. The sunrise and nightfall over the planet, the lights from the cities during nighttime, the logo changing from purple to bronze to blue and back again, and the lilting strains of "Baba Yetu" will never be forgotten.

No, this isn't sarcasm. I seriously loved that main menu and would often sit and listen to a whole version of the song before loading. Yes, I'm a Civ geek.

Baba Yetu wasn't mainstream enough, so they had to go for a more streamlined simplified music

I don't miss either and having a thread about this at least once a week is spiffy!

    This.
It does seem a little less epic without him reading everything:lol::lol:

I actually like whoever it is they got to read the tech quotations. Nimoy, while classic, was a bit hokey for me.

Yeah, Baba Yetu was a classic.

But, am I the only one that loved the Warlords opening theme, Al Nadda? THAT one is my favorite... gets me pumped every time, lol (ironically, it's actually a love song). Al Nadda

I really do like Civ 5's opening theme as well.

I muted the game when Baba Yetu was playing.

Baba Yetu will always be my recognition of civilization title music ... Well that and the civ2 soundtrack.

The Civ V music is quite tedious, samey, non spectacular, boilerplate, run of the mill. They shoul've taken a page from eg. Europa Universalis III:
    Europa Universalis III title music
It takes a few seconds to start, but is awesome. It contains notes from different cultures if you listen through it all.
