I need some multiplayer assistance

Ok, me and a friend of mine are trying to set up an internet game but it never works. We type in the host's ip address and it says it cant connect to the host's machine or something like that. The firewall is off.

Your playing from youur house, and hes playing from his house? It might be that your connected to a router which would then give you two ips... i have that problem. Why not bring your computers to each others homes and lan it up? Dont know what else to say, i hope this was helpfull enough.
