I suffer war weariness why I am attacked - WHY?

Okay - I'm sure there is a technical explanation for this feature but I've searched the boards and can't find a good explanation.

I've just wiped out Zara Jacob after a long series of wars - I attacked first and suffered the expect war weariness (WW). Have had a long phoney war with Hammaburi - he declared war on me but never sent any troops and I never felt (I think) any WW from this war.

Things have been peaceful for a few turns (10 or so) and Willem d'Orange declares war on me (no troops sent) and I immediately plunge into massive WW. I've never been a war with Willem so it doesn't make sense to me - I thought I was clear of these problems once Zara Jacob was wiped out.

Can anyone explain.

Thanks:confused:

Was Willem in the game from the start? I ask because there is a bug in the 3.13 patch related to colonies. The game will now reuse a "slot" from a civ that was previously destroyed when a colony is formed. The problem is that it doesn't properly clear the data from the previous civ before creating the colony.

So if Willem is the leader of a new colony and was assigned to Zara's slot you would have erroneously inherited the WW from the previous war. Bhruic's latest patch fixes this bug IIRC.

Willem might have the Statue of Zeus.

SoZ makes your enemies "suffer +100% war weariness".

in phony wars where you never take part in any battles, orthe only fights happen where your culture is dominant, you don't get any WW in the first place. 0 + (1 x 0) is still 0, so SoZ would have no effect.

my source is:
Active WW= sum of all WW from all living teams that you are at war with

WW from a team= Starts at 0 and is changed by

1. Combat Actions: only gained where you are not Culturally dominant
[ie a city that was someone else's for a long time might NOT count as where you are culturally dominant, even if it is within your borders]
You gain no WW from Combat actions against Barbarians

[examples of how much you gain for different actions where you aren't culturally dominant deleted]

2. Time events
Each turn =-1
Each turn at Peace= x 99% (rounded down)
...

"Foreign" here refers to Culture, not borders... so if the Germans sweep through and take half of your cities, you shouldn't have any WW killing those units and taking them back because even though it may be within German 'Borders' the area is still probably culturally yours

Oh no, not algebra! It's no wonder I suck.

That would explain why "my build the Statue of Zeus strategy for winning" hasn't worked yet.;)

*giggle* when i build SoZ, it's because i'm hoping for the sports league quest so that i can pick a free golden age as my reward. that was the first quest i ever got in BtS, and i did have the statue, and MoM, so i got a nice long free GA. now i want them all the time...

Gilagamesh has SoZ so that's not an issue. Not sure if Willem is a colony or not but I discovered him before Zara Jacob was destroyed so there would be no data to 'inherit.

I'll attach the save when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the feedback

I ran across something similar yesterday. I wiped out Hannibal early. Then Joao created a colony and declared war on me the same turn, and I had alot of we want to rejoin our motherland because of the new colony.

On a similar note in another game since 3.13, I tried to form a new colony and apparently automatically declared war on someone I did not want to. Similar to the same bug?

Okay - here's the offending save. Can I fix it if it is the bug to which you refer or will I have to start a new game.

Cheers

 so it is indeed this bug, but a more complicated form. two turns after that save Willem will form a colony and Lincoln is created, he inherits Zara's game history and is immediately at war with you, this causes his master Willem to also declare. The WW you suffer is not from Willem but from Lincoln aka Zara Reincarnate. You might be able to salvage this problem by installing Bhruic's Unofficial Patch and playing from the save you posted (since this is before Zara's reincarnation) but this is not guaranteed. With Bhruic's patch it should at least not happen again...

I just checked the save using Bhruic's 1.08 patch and it does seem to solve the problem. After a couple of turns Willem created his colony but there was no war declaration and there was no WW indicated for Willem or his vassal.

My highest WW is 32:

I have:
Police State from Pyramid: -50% (all cities)
Jail: -25% (in that city)

and WW is 8. I finally get rid of it by:

Mount Rushmore: -25% (all cities)
