I only play Civ about twice a day -- once when I get up & the other just before going to bed. Isn't that the same with everyone else?
For Ren -- I'm still playing more frequently on Prince level than any other -- only now the challenge is different. I'm still working through my Wonder Building fixation -- the challenge for me is to repeat the building of all the Wonders in one city (Prince level, large random map, raging hordes, generally peaceful relations with ai). The more I think about it, the challenge can be met on a higher level by relaxing the other conditions (smaller map, known (created) terrain, aggressivly kill off some civs before the wonder building stages), but I'm also learning about the interrelated aspects of the game:
1) More cities early on means more of Everything later on -- very key, and I still don't practice this rule enough.
2) Search -- good things happen with knowledge & better things happen with more knowledge -- I should do more of this as well.
3) Keep a log -- minor lesson for some, but this is a new one for me. I've noticed that the better players are careful about their play & a log helps to a) allow additional learning, b) help the player keep track of potential advantages (such as a retoggle of the Sci/$$/lux bar for one turn to still get the advance on time, but gain some extra $$ "at no cost" (the only cost is the risk of not toggling back)), c) allow the player to form a more organized method of play, and d) more that I have yet to learn.
But Starlifter is right -- feel free to experiment at different levels -- some different stuff happens.
I noticed that disbanding a city at Chieftan level is not the option as it is at higher levels. At the higher levels, the sages claim that only one NON settler is available per continent -- twice since I've read that I've been able to get additional NON settlers on the same continent -- but at the Warlord level.
A second consideration that you may want to try is to apply a lesson in a lower level, see if you like it, then work it into you regular game at your "comfortable" level. After a couple of those experiments, you might want to attempt a higher level so you can see where the new comfort lies.
