I came up with this idea of dividing a civilization's resources (gold, research, units, religion) along different guilds controlled by a mass of people. It is a mix of collaboration to win the Civ game, but also competition to make your Guild more influential. The result is GuildCiv:
Every player in GuildCiv has a profession and a residence.
Your profession defines your membership with one of the guilds. They are nationally operating factions controlling one aspect: The Merchant Guild has control over our civilization's budget. The Academy gives direction to cultural and scientific advancements. The Military has control over military units of all types.
BUT Things are not always that clear! The factions make deals with each other, which allows the Military to earn some money, or the academy to control units. Anything is possible in the end.
And then there are also the cities: They are self-governed and at the cross-section of all factions. They have their own interests of course. So building that military district will require some convincing of the respective city, too! This is where your second residence comes into play.
At last there is the national government. Some decisions are too big to be handled by one faction only. Yes, we are talking about War and Peace, but things like controlling foreign trade. It does not matter which faction you belong to, everyone can run for national government.
So, these parties struggle for power, make decisions, and send them to the streamer (that's me). Think of the streamer as the "Dungeon Master". All decisions are executed live on stream, while elected representatives of each factions are present to react immediately to new situations. After a couple of turns it goes back to discord and the factions can discuss and deal with the new events.
