Idea for new XP system

One thing that has always bothered me about Civ 4 (and many other games, too) is the choice you get of what area to gain experience in. That an axman, who has spent his whole life attacking cities, all of a sudden gets a bonus when defending hills just doesn't seem plausable. Imagine, instead, a system where each unit has a chance to get a promotion enhancing an action that the unit actually does. For instance, everytime the axman attacks a city, it has a chance to gain the City Raider promotion.

Now, I must confess: I am no programmer, I do not 'speak' Python, and I have never before created a mod, so this is way beyond my capabilities. Therefore I will just post my idea here, and anyone willing to use it is more than welcome to do so.

Being relatively new here, I appologise if this has been suggested before.

Well, one of the things I've been contemplating in a slightly different way is that when the number of XP is earned, it will be earned for whatever the action the unit just performed was. So it's like the auto-promote only it's specifically given based on the where and what of battle... so if it's forests, the unit gets the forest bonus, hills the hills bonus, desert.. well you get the idea.

This was one of the first mods I attempted - just so I could get to grips with python. I haven't tested it in 1.61, and, looking back on it, it could probably do with a rather large facelift.

At the moment it has a habit of slowing the game right down in the latter stages of the game. It is also pretty ridgid and will only work with the default promotions, and unit combat types.
