I'm posting this in the Stories and tales, because that's where I was reading when I came up with the idea.

Seems to me a lot of people name different "land marks" in the succession games especially (for whatever reason).

Wouldn't it be nice if in a future patch or upgrade, you could name different Mountain Ranges or Lakes and Oceans and such? Could include Forrests and Almost anything. It'd be pretty simple I would think, you could just flag a square. I believe you can do something similar in Sim City 2000. What does everyone else think? Any other suggestions?

I would like to ba able to do this also, and then you could get messages like Persians spotted in the Blue Mountains, instead of city names. Later in the game its really hard to keep track of some of the events in cities that you have conquered, especially on Huge maps. Eg Bonn, New Bonn, Bonn 2, New Bonn 2. Where was it again?
I would also like to be able to flag squares. This would help me alot when planning out my expansion. I'm pretty good at it at the moment but sometimes by the time I get a Settler there the cultural borders of close cities have enlarged and I can lose track of exactly what I was planning, which is very annoying at 3am. I have also set workers improving squares that were mistakenly not in the actual city radius. Also would be good for gather points for armies. Small things but would be great to have.
Some natural landmarks would be great too, similar to SMAC.
Aluetian Islands: Many Many Fish around small islands
Persian Gulf: Lots of Oil
Buffalo Herds: Lots of Cows
Royal Forrests: Plenty of Game
Golden Mile: Lots of Gold
Transvaal(?): Lots of Gems
That sort of thing. The resources would be not just in these areas but a nice concentration would be. The Bonus squares could be visible from the start. Link the discovery of the Strategic Resource and Luxury areas to certain discoveries so that they only became available to the civ that controlled them after they were prepered to exploit them.
