what would happen? I read today that roughly 50% of Irish people die of cancer. Thinking about it, I odnt know the stats but the vast majority of them are probably over retirement age. If a cure was found and widely distributed, wouldnt we just have a lot more mouths to feed, ones that werent capable of contributing to society? Maybe not, I'd just like to hear what people think their country would be like 40 years after a cure for cancer becomes widely available.

We'd be screwed... healthy lifestyles would fall, prices would rise (since more people are fighting for the same resources)... it's good in theory, but...

I believe that a cure for cancer has already been found, and the US government is withholding it, earning more money by ripping off dying victims for cancer care drugs.

Eventually we'll just start raising the retirement age to track with life expectancy, it's really amazing we haven't done this already in fact.

Because voters, especially old ones foisting thier healthcare costs on others, are greedy as well as the politicians who tap into that greed.

Retirement age needs to be raised, and pegged to 5 years below life expectancy. Or 8 years, or whatever, but you get the idea

Well, I expect eventually the retirement age will be pushed up by economic concerns. My Dad (late 40's) has told me he expects to work into his 70's or 80's... Retirement ae is going to get forced up by Social Security going bankrupt.

If cancer were cured, 50% of Irish will then die from something else.

Average age might rise a little, but age kills in the end regardless

Is this article of yours meaning that 1 in 2 Irish die of cancer? Doesn't that mean that the Irish should soon die out, within 20 years or so?

80 million Irish in the world today

40 million in one year's time
20 million in two years' time
10 million in three years' time
5 million in four years' time
2.5 million in five years' time
1.25 million in six years' time

etc etc

You would still die out in 40 years.

What you meant was that 1 in 2 Irish deaths are cancer-related.

Cancer is inevitable. It's in our genetic code. I don't think there's a cure for it. If people want to be immortal, they'll have to find another host for their life because our bodies will get one form of cancer or another if we live long enough. Unfortunately.

 at Ross being silly boy.

DEATH kills us all

we'd all become zombies
