"casting shows", as we Germans understand it and use the phrase, are shows where you have to undergo a casting first (presided over by a panel of judges) to enter into the intermediate/final stages where then (usually) the audience decides.

formats include <country>'s Idol, <country's> Next Top Model, <country>'s got Talent, Last Comedian Standing, Hell's Kitchen, etc.

You mean like making birds and stuff with your hands using a flashlight? I like doing that only when somebody else is making a bunny or something. I make a giant wolfish thing that eats the bunny :ar15:

well, German misuse of English words 1 : 0 scherbchen

"casting" shows for us are shows like American Idol, America's Next Top Model, Britain's Got Talent, etc. shows where you are casted based upon an audition.

Ohhhh, i thought you said casting shadows!! I only like American Idol until they get rid of all the bad people.

reality shows are terriable, and a waste of TV time.....IMO

I think they are very fake, and do not watch them. While the winners may well be quite talented, and that gives them a leg up on a career, if they are that talented there are other ways to get a career out of it.

It's funny to see people humiliate themselves on national tv.

By the time all the bad people are gone, its boring though.

oddly enough my position is exactly diametrical to yours. once you have seen 40 people make a <bleep> of themselves on national tv it kind of gets repetitive. sure, you can be a bigger arse. but that is easy. the odd, and ever-surprising (*nudge*), what is the phrase? let's say 'gem' that shows up in these shows is something I do enjoy. I just fast-forward through the embarassing stuff.
