I've just procured a copy of Civ II Test of Time via a freebie website. . It arrived as a solitary CD in a plastic sleeve, with no instructions or anything. The read me file contains nothing that means anything to me. I have no prior experience whatsoever to the game, in fact the whole idea is new to me. So can anyone guide me to the rules, controls, keyboard commands etc. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear you actually recieved your copy.I'm guessing you live in the UK.

Anyways,I don't have ToT per say,but I beleive there is a civlopedia included with it.Consult it frequently until you get to know what stuff does. Its kinda boring but well worth it to have a good read thru "game concepts" in the civlopedia menu.

In civ2 there are menus across the top. When you click them you get sub menus of commands, advisors and such which shows the key shortcut..ie build city=press "b"(with a settler unit)..fortify unit=press f..etc.I'm hoping ToT is the same.

There is a Chieftain level beginner's game included in ToT which gives extra help with the basics.

You might be able to download a copy of the manual from www.gamewinners.com . There is (or used to be) a link on this site to a sister site which had a lot of game manuals in PDF format. I printed one off for a PS game when I lost my copy of the manual.

Hey vaughan!!
You can do as smash says! It's much more fun to play civII and discovering the rules and strategies as the game roles then reading the manual!
Later when you'll be a pro civII player you'll remember silly thinks you've done and you'll laugh. (If you're understand what i want to mean)
Reading the manual is a little bit boring (but also gives you lots of general information)!
