I'm disapointed

Yes, I will buy the game and play it a whole bunch.

But... I was kinda hoping they would move away from hexagons and go into the open world direction with the game. Make a new leap into the 4x turn based genere, and show everybody else who is the big dog in the house. I understand that hex tiles make it somewhat easy to control the map but I feel like next big step is making civ 4x games is doing it without hexagons.

Anyway, thats kinda disapointing because the 7 is now just a fancy update to 6.

oh ye... and the any ruler... for any civ... and then new civ every age... I don't know. Kinda breaks the immersion a bit here? Don't you think?

That's quite a leap from "both have hexagons" to "they're the same game," especially given some of the bold and radical design decisions they've made with Civ7...

On topic, I don't have a strong opinion. I think the hexagons are fine. I've played a few betas of Ara, and I didn't hate it but it didn't really sell me, either.

i did get acess to ARA beta but didnt have the time to play it.
what is your opinion on it? anychance it can be a more real competition than humankind?

I admire it for doing something very different from Civ. It has some good ideas, but I don't think it's my taste. I don't like the crafting system. Expansion doesn't feel satisfying. It needs some tuning at the very least.

what you're describing with open world would basically also get rid of turn-based strategy. An open world civ would be a real-time strategy.
You see, this is where I think there could be made improvements. You can definitly make a turn based game that doesn't use some kind of tileing system. Turn based just means you can move this much, and do this much, during this turn. So basic restrictions on how far you can move and shot during a turn. Open map would make for such a great big update to war mechanics in the game.

I see and what about the automated combat ? does it feel unrewarding?

I haven't really engaged with the combat mechanics; I'm not much of a war-focused player.

I really wish the game were more like Civ6 and less like HK.

Might have have gone too far saying that 7 is just a fancy update for 6. But I was hopeing for something more groundbreaking. (I do get that ingame mechanics are very new and stuff.. Even that one that everybody hates)

Ah man hexagons?? It should have been decagons!!?
Save that for Civ 10. It should have been septagons considering Civ VI had hexagons. :mischief:

Baldurs Gate 3. No hexes. Turn based.

I‘m not really disappointed, because somehow i had a feeling like this before… somehow i expected something like that. The multiple civs in one game thing is the last thing needed to be not on board. This means, sure i will buy at some point, and play, and maybe having even fun with it. But it‘s none of what i was hoping for. Now i can surely say, no modding anymore, because i feel it‘s not worth it.

What‘s my problem with the multiple civ idea? Well, a lot of my fun with civ is playing as a civ i can identify with… So i WANT to play as Japan or another civ i can identify myself with, from the beginning to the end, and not starting as another civ…
It‘s all about identification for me, that‘s part of the immersive experience. Why would i want to play as a civ i can‘t identify with? For me, there is no point in that.

As i expected, the graphics are nice, but not as beautiful as i was hoping.

Sorry to say, but Civ7 will not be what i was hoping it would be. Modding is over for me. Thanks to all who gave Wildlife for Civ6 a chance, even when i would not do it again that way.

And last but not least, i hope you all have fun with Civ7.

Speaking of mods, if civ7 is relatively close to civ6 moddability, picking a civ and lead it from start to finish will surely be one of the first out there.

Apples and Oranges.
Not at all!
A lot of people on here seem to think 4x is somehow it's own thing that can't take ideas from anywhere else. Which I find a bizarre thing to think, 4x got inspired by board games and chess and etc. But now that it's established it can't look to anywhere outside it's hollowed garden walls?

There's no reason a 4x game couldn't have unit movement work exactly like Baldur's Gate 3.
Indeed I find the major changes in Civ VII to be thinking about the problems Civ has, but takes little opportunity to think about what Civ could be.
