Argh! After years of frustration I have finally bit the bullet.
Uninstalled and deleted the steam version that have been causing me headache for so long, where I have been forced to tell steam to run offline again and again, endure a broken mapfinder that nags about some color missing, and a game that periodically crashes when trying to play with lock modified assets.

Now I'll just have to install the GOG version that I bought almost 2 years ago...
And get Bug working.. And buffy, and blue marble, and make sure that...?

What things is it that I need to do exacly? :D

Ok, now most things seem to work!
But after the GOG-fix from Zarcon, or possibly from the vista fix (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php?show=vista).
I'm having a issue with that my screen is getting hijacked by a loadscreen.

Game loads up without problem, with buffy5 mod and blue marble, and I see the first screen and can push "single player" but when I do, a loadscreen is overlayed and I can't do anything (that I can see) before I force the game to quit.
If I don't click with the mouse, but instead navigae the menues with keyboard, the loadscreen overlay doesn't hijack my monitor.
But to load a game, I need to click it it seems, I did this and then took screenshots, and the screenshots that is saved is from the ingame situation. But on my monitor I just see the bts-loadscreen.

Known issue?
I'll try to see if changing to windowed mode, or changing resolutions or other graphic settings can resolve the issue.

Hmm.. no windowed mode doesn't really help. It does allow me to quit the game though, as the loadscreen overlay is just hovering in the middle of my screen, obscuring the view abit.
When I move to another desktop "ctrl+start -> left" the loadscreen square is still in the middle of my view too.

Can't change screen resolutsions ingame as the loadscreen square obscures the view. :/

In case noone recognizes this, I'll reinstall again and start with the vista and buffy fixes and see if that works, and add blue marble after that.

Well... I uninstalled and deleted everything, and now when I have installed fresh again, the loadscreen overlay error persist.
I'm really screwed now it seems.

When starting regular Civ4 (Not BTS) that loadscreen doesn't appear, and everything seems to work nice.
@Noble Zarkon Have I found some bug in that register patch of yours?

Set compatibility mode to Win 7...that'll do it

ha..is that a picture of you in the vid?

@lymond Have uninstalled again now, trying to delete everything I can find to see if I can get a totally clean install. But will check that with compability when I get it up again.
It's not me there, It's something that pops up if you push "credits".
Sort of similar though looks as nerdy, only more handsome and younger!

Don't need to reinstall. Just set compatibility mode to Win 7. This is a known issue. Gumbolt found the fix on youtube actually quite recently.

Ah, I had already uninstalled. And now I have searched and deleted all entries of bug/buffy/blue marble/etc etc I could find on the computer, including the registry. So hopefully things will work out now when I get the lenghy install up again. :D
So good to know that I had a known issue, PHEW!

So it was this step that landed me into trouble then:
http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php?show=vista

"3. Crashes & Compatibility Mode
When using Vista\Windows 7, setting Compatibilty Mode to "Windows XP (SP2)" can decrease crashes with older games such as Civ4. This is especially true for 64-bit versions.
(see image above - blue box)
"

Wonder if I should even do the things on that page, if I got windows 10?

@lymond Perhaps there should be some mention of Gumbolts and my issue there? So not others also land in the same trouble?

Good point. I will ask Noble to update it.

The other stuff is relevant to valid HOF submissions.

(Honestly, I usually inform folks to perform steps 1 and 2 on that page, as compatibility seems to be a subjective issue. I've never had a problem myself, but I think I've run in Win 7 mode for many years anyway)

I still have my physical discs.. Haha. I've never had a problem using those and then patching, but I would still be terrified if I had to reinstall.

@Izuul I know, I was completely terrified, but I decided the accumulated minor issues I was having all of the time was simply enough and I had to do it.
Seems to work now, and I sure hope it continues to do so!

I never had the discs, I tried it out with a version "borrowed from a friend" about 2009, then I bought it from steam a while later, and then I bought it again from GOG to get a standalone version.

Ah! So nice that my messup could pave the way for less problems for others in the future!

Yes, please continue screwing things up so we can find more issues were are not presently aware of :D

Think that was from @Seraiel? At least I saw a post like that in the HoF forum. Probably a month or two back.

There are other way to solve Windows fixes too.
Spoiler :
Install Linux! :D

(which can have its own set of challenges ofc, but my experience with it, as a noob, has been overwhelmingly positive)
