So I'm going to new Orleans jazz fest 2008 today (well we are planning on hitting the road in two hrs). It's about a 21 hr ride.:( but 5 of us are driving, so it shouldn't be that bad.

It's my first time in new Orleans, and I wanna to ask what kind of stuff (other then jazz fest) I should do/see. We are staying 4 days.

I'll have my PDA on me, So I can still check the internet. And spending 21 hrs in car is going to get boring fast. So I'll likely be check back here on my PDA often on the car ride up there seeing what tips/idea's you have for me.

Drive down Carrollton street and St. Charles. Carrollton is beautiful and St. Charles has wonderful houses.
Here's the corner of the two streets.

See the Garden District. Extremely beautiful homes.

See the cemeteries, if you feel like it. Some of them have extremely ornate statues. Here are a few outside Delgado:

Walk around a little on Tulane and Loyola campuses for some extremely nice architecture.

Go to the lake and just sit around looking at it.

Walk around the French quarter and buy useless crap that you don't want, or look at the cool architecture:

Prepare to be awed.
I'm not really much of a jazz fan, myself, but when my wife and I went a few years ago, I thought it was one of the best experiences of my life.

The festival, itself, is an all-day thing. On the days when you are there (at the festival, that is), don't plan on much of anything else, except maybe finding a quaint restaurant for dinner that evening. (You should be able to get plenty of recommendations for restaurants wherever you are staying.

If you are also there on a non-festival day, do as philippe says and just go with the flow: ride a streetcar (if they are back in operation, now -- my trip was pre-Katrina), visit the French Quarter, whatever.

You're going to have a great time. I'm envious. :goodjob:

I can't qoute for some odd reason off my PDA phone. (errr)

Thank you all for the links and the info. I have been craving Franch Toast. :-) I can't wait to try that place out.

and yes. everyone has been telling me to be carful and to always walk in groups ect ect. and that's good advise I plan on following.

we are only going to jazz fest for a day or two. the rest of the time we plan on "going with the flow" as you say. My friends plan is to pretty much walk around drunk (and they can drink) So yea, the key is to find the rest place to "go with the Flow"

well been on the road for 2hrs. some 18hr more to go.

Wow, I'm really jealous! I've wanted to go to New Orleans since I was a kid. The jazz fest should have all kinds of jazz, but pay extra attention to funk. N.O. has the greatest funk music in the entire world.
