I'm sure this is a lost cause...

Long story short, got over 1000 hours on Civ5 with zero issues, exclusively play on strategic view because I like it better and also for performance. I was nervous when my girlfriend decided to get me Civ6 for Christmas and sent it over early. I suspect that my 2010 macbook pro
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 duo
4gb ram
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
I put in a crucial 256gb SSD

cannot run the game. There's no backgrounds to anything, my game looks like the following

Is this just a patch needed issue, am i boned, or do I need to change up software or something? I'm not too computer literate when it comes to games... I just feel really bad for her that I can't play it.

Definitely a lost cause. CPU, GPU, and RAM are all far below minimum specifications. I have the more powerful version of that same MBP (2.66 GHz, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA 330M) and that's not remotely capable of running Civ6 either.

That was nice of her, but any chance she can get you a new MacBook Pro?
