So I rolled this start with Shaka (I always like to choose random leader and nation), and I know that I am getting Civil Service and calender ASAP to run bureaucracy and get those purple dillies.

Even though I rolled Shaka, I'm thinking about expanding peacefully (for now... hehe) and just go 1/3 prod 2/3 money in this city. Is this a sound strategy? the food sources are low, so I should invest quite a bit into farming yes? no?

Or should I just find a prod city and warmonger?

And how are De Gaulle and Huayana as neighbors? Huyana alraedy founded budhism...should I oracle code of laws ( i'll have marble tehe) and then get De Gaulle confucian and cause them to strife. Are they war mongering types?

Farma those Dyes until you get calendar. Whatever you do, it's hard to not do well with a 2 gems capital...

I hope someone can answer all my questions, because I have some more :)

So I cannot decide whether I should build a reallllllly shittty 2nd city only for the copper and be able to train axe and pikes, or a decent city with elephants to train... war elephants. shaka UU is pikes, so that sounds useful especially without any access to horses...but the city would be worthless other than copper and the elephants are kiinda badass. I dont know. huayana is somewheres to the south.

the copper city's not that bad imo. And SHaka's impi's replace spears, not pikes.

A save and screenshots of more of the land would be nicer. I wouldn't settle either of those locations, but explore around the coast and try to find fish near the copper. (The Corn/Ivory site is good if you settle on the river, but it seems too far away for a second city).

Can't do saves because people say they don't work cuz I just use the store bought version of BTS.

Here i have some saves. Unfort. my scout got screwed early. He got killed at .9 strength by some lions while on forest and hill tile. It was totally dumb. needless to say nothing much got explored. I explored some more by the copper only to find abs. no fish or nothing there. It was kinda crap.

I hope these SS's will help somemore. As I said, I am new to this game and playing on noble and generally winning, but haven't really mastered war.

also, I was planning on settling the tile 1NE of lake to get all 3 resources.

They do not build a lot of units, however they are not trustworthy either. Get them to friendly or wipe them out (because at pleased they can declare).

Getting inca to friendly is usually very easy though: hereditary rule + his religion should take care of it early.

I thought De Gaulle couldn't declare at pleased? Or is my info outdated..
I know Huayana definitely can.

Hehe I just wiped out Huyana. I mostly took care of him by 800 AD. De Gaulle is happy with me, but I'll take him off my continent as soon as the last pesky Incan cities get razed.

A question:
Is 800 ad kind of a late time to have taken out 1 civilization? I can't really get over to other continent before the 4 capacity ship is available. (forgot name and tech). If a game gets to the point where catapults are needed, what year should the first civ start to fall?

It's not so much as to whether it's late or not, it's after it was over do you feel like you could have accomplished it earlier? If so look at the points that you made you decide to initiate, and whether they could have started 10, 15 20 turns earlier. Next game try them out, be a 'little' more daring.

Slightly off topic:

What use do ppl make of the impi? Stack defender/pillager? Cos they are kinda useless as offensive units except, of course against chariots/HAs? Would a HA/Impi rush be a good use?

I played a game last night were I masse about 25 units of Axemen, chariots and impis and, using stack attack, the impis almost never attacked.

Impi are generally bad except for surprise attacks (can be somewhat viable against humans as they can threaten multiple cities and possibly come paired with chariots).

They kind of suck in single player although if you opt for a choke they can pillage tiles while the axes cover before you find a convenient forest and/or hill to camp.

Generally they're a pretty weak UU although they certainly discourage mounted.

Quick stack defender could be useful, but Impie add to the whole "niche defensive unit" another problem : they don't upgrade well, since all upgrade have 1 move.

If instead of two move Impi were getting Mobility and morale as free prom, then you could do better thing with them. Quick pike to defend your knight, then quick riflemens, etc. But for now Zulu don't really have an UU, especially since chariot can't protect them from axes.

If there's any food near that copper, get a city there asap.

Actually, get a city there even if there isn't a food resource. Better to make sure you get a metal source even if it isn't an ideal city.
