    You are probably right.

I will try to get CoL right now and convert to Caste System. If I also get a religion then Taoism and Pacifism would be nice. What shall I do with the Great Scientists I will get? Settle them? Bulb as many Techs as possible? An academy (or more Academies)? Keep some of them for a GA?

What about teching? Now, I think of researching CoL, then Currency, then CS, then Calendar and beelining Liberalism and try to get Astronomy as the free technology. Then I will try to find all civilisations.

And what to do next? I would like to try Domination (or possibly Conquer) but this will be difficult for me. When should I plan my first attack? With riflemen? Later? Sooner?

    1. Revolt into Representation for the +3:) and grow your cities. I'd say grow them on to cottages since it doesn't look like you're going to have enough food for decent specialists.
    2. I think Confucianism is a long shot and I don't see any of your cities, except maybe the capital, having enough food to run more than two scientists. So I'd go for Metal Casting for some good coastal tiles (with the colossus).
    3. I'd skip Liberalism this game and gun for Optics and Astronomy. Astro is also good since it should get you an early Calender which you need anyway for the Sugar. Settle some other islands before the AIs have time and abuse trade routes for as long as you can before the AIs get Astronomy.
    4. It might be worth bulbing Philosophy if Taoism is still available, but otherwise I'd give it a miss.
    5. Get a chariot to scout the rest of the island pronto.

I disagree with pretty much everything Benginal posted... Rep specialists >>>> cottages. You definitely want code of laws to crank up the scientist count in Rome (that alone is worth it). You can lib astronomy and it should work well with your tech path. Philosophy for pacifism will also be good since you probably won't have much of a military this game.

I'd send a WB around the island to look for other islands to settle up north. Off-short intra empire trade routes are base 2 coin.

took your save to 225BC, beware heavy map spoilers!

    Spoiler :

I think that going CoL is here the right answer.

I had to waste 3 turns on civic changes though :-(, first was rep+slavery, for some whips of infra (granary+lib in some cities).
Then I switched into religion of course and Caste.

I stopped now since as it seems you are not alone indeed. to the west there is neighbor and I think quick expansion along coast and taking barb city seems like big priority now to get land.

    Religion got nicely autospread.

Would be interesting what to tech now. i managed up to this point math (after col). I queued CS, but am not sure if this is good approach with AI neighbor.

The southern fishy city would be next turn switched to max specs.

I will have a bit trouble with generating settlers though. the other 3 cities are a bit too low for it.

    screens
    Spoiler :

I probably overwhipped a bit in some cities...especially that future monster production is something I am a bit sorry for.

    1. I will convert but some turns later. I started building Settlers and Workers after completing Pyramids so I am not growing these turns anyway. It is better to build units before conversion since they do not lose a turn in anarchy (for example, I can finish those Settlers and convert while they move to the destination of their new city which keeps me a turn for the new cities).

    3. I will definitely research Calendar but I would like to try to grab Astronomy from Liberalism.
If I find some islands I can settle them. I do not know the mechanism of trade routes in details and I never realized that it can boost my economy. But what about the upkeep? Is it really profitable?

    4. f I get a chance to get a religion I will make use of it. But Pacifism is good with any religion (since I have the Pyramids and plan to run a bunch of Scientists) so maybe I should reasearch (or bulb) Philosophy anyway (at least if I get Confucianism but I do not beleive it very much).

    5. I will send a Chariot or a Work Boat up to the north. Chariot is better for killing barbarians but Work boat is better for exploring possible islands (and the Work Boat will also be handy later).

    Cottages vs. Scientists:
In most of my games I build many cottages and have a problem of a low production. I have managed to build Pyramids in this game even without stone (I did not have many other possibilities what to build since I had to wait for IW before settling new cities but this is irrelevant). In this game, I would like to try a different strategy. I plan to build no cottages (is it a good idea?) and build Wealth if commerce is needed. I can run a lot of Scientists with all the continent farmed. And when I get an oportunity to attack somebody I can use a lot of mines with those farms and build an army quickly. Can this strategy work? Do you have any other tips for me?

Yeah, I generally don't build any cottages unless I'm Financial. And if you have the Pyramids it's a no-brainer. Farms and mines, later adding workshops, is much more versatile. Especially with the only two useful labour civics.. Slavery needs more food and Caste System helps specialists and workshops.

    Turns 80 - 98

    Spoiler :

Research was Meditation ---> Priesthood ---> Code of Laws.

I had to build War Chariot befor finishing the Settler...
    Spoiler :

... due to this nasty barbarian warrior...
    Spoiler :

... who passed my fog busters and pillaged my Ivory...
    Spoiler :

... and although he was killed then...
    Spoiler :

... this led to unhappeness in my cities...
    Spoiler :

... so I converted to Representation and Slavery. You can see that the Settler from the Capital is already built at this moment so he keeps a turn for the new city (really, he can move in anarchy so this was better than converting immediatelly after completing Pyramids).
    Spoiler :

    The new city.
    Spoiler :

    Teching.
    Spoiler :

    Whipping Library.
    Spoiler :

Building Granary in my second city after Settler.
    Spoiler :

Running two Scientests in my third city.
    Spoiler :

    Another new city.
    Spoiler :

The Colossus was built in 625 BC. If I went for Metal Casting I would not get it.
    Spoiler :

My Capital built Worker, Settler and then Granary befor growing.
    Spoiler :

    Another city.
    Spoiler :

Great Engineer was born and settled in Capital.
    Spoiler :

A nasty barbarian Spearman came from the north (I hate barbarian spearmen when I have no metal) and killed one of my Warriors and my War Chariot but then I killed him with another Warrior. I decided to build a new War Chariot quickly.
    Spoiler :

    Whipping Granary...
    Spoiler :

... and I will quickly grow again then.
    Spoiler :

    I succeeded with the Confucianism!
    Spoiler :

Next is Mathematics which is needed for both Calendar and Civil Servise.
    Spoiler :

    To be continued...

    Taoism is still avaible.
    Spoiler :

I have six Workers right now. I guess that this is enough till Civile Service when I will want to build Farms everywhere.

Demographics. The Great Lighthouse keeps our GNP high but the rest looks bad. Was it possible to keep these statistics in a better shape?

    I have some questions:

    1. When is the right moment to convert to Caste system? Right now? After whipping some more buildings?

    2. What is the mechanism of converting to a religion and new Civics? I remember that it is not possible in a single turn, is it? (Yes, this question is about the game mechanism.)

    3. What is the best teching from now? I guess I need Mathematics, Calendar, Civile Servece, Currency and Philosophy in some order. But what is the best order?

    4. How quickly should I settle the rest of my continent? Immediately?

    1. depends on the number of infra you want in near future.

    2. in golden age you can do in 1T (because no anarchy). Without GA and Spir. you will use 2 anarchies after each other (so first anarchy for civics - can be 1-3T typically depending on the amount changed and I think size of empire, and 1T for religion).

    3. I went with math in the few turns above I made, rest is map spoiler

    4. this is for me map spoiler
    Spoiler :
    you should scout
    Spoiler :
there is AI nearby changing few things

I planned to play further tonight but something crossed my plans. Morover, I leave my home for a week tomorrow so the next update will be in about 8-10 days. Sorry for those who read this thread. At least you can give me some more advices meanwhile, I would appreciate it.
