Immortal University 110 - Montezuma

Long story short - 1730 Conquest+Domination

Spoiler :
Everything according to plan. Conquered Toku with ~30 Cavalry. Then attacked Pacal (+1 City Ragnar Vassal) with cavalry + airships. A brave decision as he had already teched Railroad, Replaceable Parts and Scientific Method. Seems throughout the game I had about 30 cavalries whipping reinforcements as numbers dwindled under heavy machine gun fire. Then attack vs Pericles who had Physics and Rifling but was @ only 9 cities and had a diminutive stack. The other continent was too backward to seriously oppose the invasion.

Some pics.

Wrong thread Ohjames!!! This is an Aztec game. I know the thread you intended to post in. I have lost focus on civ 4 play last few days.

haha, I was wondering where my posts in that thread had gone. I will move those :D

up to turn 59 IMM/normal.

Spoiler :
I was determined to go for a jag rush on IMM,and it only bloody worked:D.

Was a very close thing though..Id scouted out ragnars copper, initially he had farmed it but by the time my first Jag was ready to attack and sabotage it he had already roaded it and got another settler out.I attacked blind just landing on the copper with my woodsmanII promotion, only to find I was facing a spear to the NW and an axeman in Nidros.

AIs turn and the spearman attacked my jag and won:cry:,but next turn another jag killed the spearman, then AI kills jag with axe,I kill axe with the next jag and sabotage copper, last jag takes Nidros with just a single archer left.

The reason I didn't stack my army was I was just going to choke him initially till I got enough troops, but this has worked out very nice.

Finally, got some time to play civ4 again!

Settings: IMM

Spoiler :

I find this start challenging for Monty. The food looks good around the starting area but lacked "powerful" commerce resources like gold/gems. I found my capital 2N-E.

My initial tech path is Animal Husbandry > Mining > BW

I met Pacal, Toku, Ragnar and Pericles along the way. I find Ragnar disturbingly near. So early expansion will be problematic. Rather than building the Oracle and peacefully expanding, which would most likely get DoWed later by Ragnar. I decided to do a jaguar choke. As a consequence, I researched IW instead of Priesthood.

I produced a warrior before worker and park it outside Ragnar's capital. It seems that his worker roading something when suddenly...

Yes! Worker steal from Ragnar. How insane is that?

Ragnar: Hey Monty, what's that flower pot hanging in your head.
Monty: The Heck! Prepare for war!
Ragnar: No, I'm just telling that my helmet looks more fashionable than yours...
Monty: Talk to the ceremonial blade, Ragnar!

After BW, I found Ragnar's copper. it has not been mined. I tried to move my warrior in the forested hill near his capital. Meanwhile he was mass building archers which slowed his expansion considerably. Ragnar's capital site is full of forests, which encouraged me to put on a woodsman 1 for my warrior (although in retrospect I should promote him with cover). I also pillaged his roads so as to slow down his movement.

Tech path is now Wheel > Fishing > Agri > Pottery > IW

Hurry... hurry... hurry... Set up an expansion south of my starting location and 2N-E of my capital. hooked up horses and chopped some forests. Reinforced with another warrior and 2 chariots. However, Ragnar was able to expand into 3 cities. But both cities are of poor quality (no/weak food resource). Although he was able to produce chariots, the absence of roads meant that I can pillage his improvements easier. I lost a warrior in the process but once IW was researched. The Jaguar warriors are ready to rock. 2nd phase of the choking process commence.

I was lucky because Ragnar did not built walls in his capital. At this point I got 4 cities and he can't do anything. He tried to send his chariots to my undefended 4th city but that was a big mistake because...

He lost his capital and his only production city. What's more I got Woodsman 3 and a GG! (Losing some jaguars in the process)

Sued for peace with Ragnar. Tech path is now Sailing > Masonry > Writing

Spoiler :

Expanded into 7 cities. I think I got the best chunk of land in my area. Viking is plotting but he cannot do anything even with horse archers because WoodmanII Jaguar warriors on forest is unbeatable at the moment. What more, I got Axes and Spears ready to counter his forces. He is simply sandwiched between me and Toku. To add insult to his injury, his capital has no food resource or a fresh water (no farms) so that should prevent him from growing any further.

On the downside, I was not able to build the Oracle (built 1000BC by Pericles), GLH (built 675BC by Toku... but he is not opening borders so what's the point??) and Colossus (50 BC by Pericles). But I was able to build the Pyramids (Tlatelolco) and Moai (Nidaros) and run representation. The economy was in bad shape. I am losing money at 20% research. Good thing representation + scientist specialists were keeping my research alive.

Well done panda, looks like were both in the same boat on this game.A bit of Jaguar love can go along way.At IMM self teching iron working with virtually no commerce on paper seems suicidal.Guess we,ve both proved that wrong.

Spoiler :
I would say that the geography of the map is important. Things will not turn out well if Ragnar's capital is lacking in forests.

When playing leaders with early resourceless UUs like (Skirmisher, Bowman, Jaguar, Holkan, Dog Soldier... Or "Dun"/"Totem" Archers), I tend to go for choking if the nearby land is good; so that I can expand unopposed. Of course, stronger early UUs like Quechua, War Chariot, Immortal, Keshik, Vulture can go for the kill if the opportunity is present.
