I slowly started preparing the new cycle and I'd like to know your opinion on which leaders should we start with.

From all leaders available, I excluded:

    Peter Russia (Exp/Phi)
  • NC's List of unplayed/unscheduled leaders:

    Napoleon France (Cha/Org) *4
    Shaka Zulu (Agg/Exp)
    Sitting Bull Native America (Phi/Pro)
    Suleiman Ottoman (Imp/Phi)
    Suryavaraman II Khmer (Cre/Exp)
    Wang Kon Korea (Fin/Pro)

    *1 & *1, *2 & *2, *3 & *3, *4 & *4 from firsts 2 lists are doubles.
  • NC's List of last played leaders:
    Spoiler :
    Isabella Spain (Exp/Spi)
    Pericles Greece (Cre/Phi)
    Pacal II Maya (Exp/Fin)
    Qin Shi Huang China (Ind/Pro)
    Stalin Russia (Agg/Ind)
  • To avoid clashes with sisterly series and get the List of leaders available to start the new round with:
    Spoiler :
    Alexander Greece (Agg/Phi)
    Brennus Celtia (Spi/Cha)
    Catherine Russia (Cre/Imp)
    Charlemagne HRE (Imp/Pro)
    De Gaulle France (Cha/Ind)
    Elizabeth England (Fin/Phi)
    Frederick Germany (Phi/Org)
    Gandhi India (Phi/Spi)
    Hannibal Carthage (Fin/Cha)

    Saladin Arabia (Pro/Spi)
    Tokugawa Japan (Agg/Pro)
    Victoria England (Fin/Imp)
    Washington America (Cha/Exp)
    Willem Dutch (Cre/Fin)
    Zara Yaqob Ethiopia (Cre/Org)
And before I start excluding anyone else (like one leader of repeating nations (Fra, Eng, USA), ones with the most represented traits and so on), cast your vote in the poll to choose which leaders we'll play in first group!

*It's a multiple choice poll.
**IU reserves the right to make a list according to (most importantly) trait combinations (so they're not repeating and such) and to exclude a leader even he has more votes than other (in special cases), but this poll will help us to sort it out according to your wishes. Poll is open for 10 days, until January 21.
***IU still hasn't decided if 52 leaders will be split into 3 or 4 (or more) groups, this will help us in deciding that as well. Suggestions are welcome!

If you have any additional ideas, suggestions & solutions on how to make IU better or point to things you don't like - feel free to discuss it here.

For example, I'd like Deity players to get more involved in helping lower level players with their games - but in order to do so, they need more info from you as well. So remember, when you post in anticipation of their help, you need to give them something to work with - your thoughts on your game (why you did what you did, how you plan to proceed...) combined with some important screens (not screens of leaderheads or wonders and such - we all know how they look like, but for example land overview, tech situation, relations, city overview, demographics, city screen/s...) and/or saves. But not only screens and/or saves with message: help! The more info you give them, easier they'll realize where you need to improve (in general as well as game specific) and the better feedback you can get.

Thanks in advance!

Joao/Vicky/DeGaulle, I am gonna start a cycle with a win, so strong leader is needed!

Voted Alex/Cathy/Monty/Sallad, because I haven't played any of them in a very long time but really would like to give them a shot. Alex is an odd guy with agg/phi, don't really know at all how to get the most out of that combo. That's what makes it interesting. Cathy is cre/imp, which should allow a lot of fast land grabbing, which I always love to do! Monty I've never played, I think. The sacrificial altar for crazy whipping combined with spi for civic changes whenever you feel like it should make him a fun guy to play though. Saladin I have wanted to try just to see what a priest economy would look like. The Madrassa looks kind of stupid on paper, but is it?

Those four also have in common that none of them start with what would be called good starting techs. That always gives some food for thought for the opening, which is good to start the discussion.

Voted for those I'm most interested in seeing how to play: Charlie, Louis, Monty and Saladin. Louis because I want to see musket-supported cuirs, the others because they're often considered weak and I'm curious how to make the best of them.

  • Frederick (PHI ORG)
  • Montezuma (SPI AGG)
  • Wilhem (CRE FIN)
  • Charlemagne(PRO IMP)
  • Catherine (CRE IMP)
  • Ramesses (SPI IND)
  • Washington (CHA EXP)
  • Alexander (AGG PHI)
  • Mehmed (EXP ORG)

ORG - 2
FIN - 1
AGG - 2
PRO - 1
CRE - 2
IND - 1
IMP - 2
PHI - 2
SPI - 2
CHA - 1
EXP - 2

Montezuma it is then.

Did this ever happen??? Where is IU 109???

Does someone want to volunteer for this if Dub is inactive??

Dub hasn't posted in 2 months... Anyone know where he is and if he intends to come back and continue this? Else someone else can hopefully step in. Continuing IU would require a new bullpen thread, which means that whoever starts it should hopefully be around to update the OP for 2 years or so. It's not that much work as there appears to be many active mapmakers around, but it is a long term commitment anyway.

Do we need all the five sets of saves??? Do people use all 5-6 levels of save with huts??

I could set up a new Bull pen thread. My map making skills are very bare.

Making the different saves isn't that hard, especially not the individual saves for different difficulties, so I think it's worth it to keep that the way it has been.

The next NC game starts tomorrow, a potential relaunch of IU should probably be on Friday next week. I believe you could be a good host Gumby, you don't seem like the kind of guy who plans to leave CFC anytime soon. ;)

It's knowing what makes a good map and how to set up world builder saves. That you cannot learn over night. A bad IU game can drop like a tonne of bricks.

Yes, that's what I meant. Hard part is not making the saves for different difficulties. That's a really small part of the job, so no need to drop that.

Okay I have figured out the world builder bit.
I have also figured out the custom scenario bit too.

Steam rolling here. lol

I need to have a think on types of maps and play test a bit.

I'll need to have a look at the IU list of games.

I assume the map makers were going into each map and editing up the AI for the right techs and starting units.

When creating a map you should save it in worldbuilder, then edit the worldbuildersave in a text editor. Directions how to do this, courtesy of NC bullpen:

Here are the edits to turn a regular WB save file into something playable for a map series game. This presumes you created a Noble game to start with (to get the mimimal set of AI techs), with huts and events turned on. It also assumes your player's civilization is the first one and that you are leaving the "teams" defaulted to one per player/AI.
  • Find "Speed=xxx" and change "xxx" to "NONE".
  • Find "MaxTurns=xxx" and change "xxx" to "0".
  • Find all occurrences of "PlayableCiv=1" after the first and change the 1 to 0. This avoids giving the player the option of selecting what should be AI civilizations.
  • Delete all BeginUnit/EndUnit blocks except those with "UnitOwner=0". This is critical to allow AIs to get their appropriate units at higher difficulties while leaving the player's units in the same spots as the initial screen shots.
  • Delete all lines saying "Handicap=". This lets the AI handicap vary by level.
  • Save the results as the "noble/huts/events" save file.
  • Add "Tech=TECH_ARCHERY" to all teams except TeamID=0 (the player's team). Save the results as the "monarch/huts/events" save file.
  • Repeate for TECH_HUNTING (emperor), TECH_AGRICULTURE (immortal), and TECH_THE_WHEEL (deity). I always avoid dulicates if the civ already has the tech but it may be harmless.
To get the no huts / no events save files, copy each huts/events save and do the following:
  • Find all occurrences of "ImprovementType=IMPROVEMENT_GOODY_HUT" and change them to blank (or delete the lines they're on).
  • Near the start of the file, after the Speed line add a new line with "(tab)Option=GAMEOPTION_NO_EVENTS"
There's some macro thingy available to do this part automatically also, but I haven't tried that so don't know how it works.

How are you uploading the files??? My account reached it's limit many years ago. I keep having to delete old files which is not ideal for this. ;)

I assume you load the WB save in note pad too?

I had no idea there's a limit for uploads... :D Don't think I'm close yet.

Notepad should be fine for editing the saves. Any plain text editor with a search function will do.

There is a limit of 60mb for attachments. This soon builds up when you attach saves to the forum. Not sure how I increase this limit.
