Somehow I have a feeling it might be, unless TF jumps it back up.

There are 8 human players including myself - Lighthearter has been inactive and so is not counted.

I'm putting the game's fate to vote. The 7 members can choose whether to keep it alive or end it, so that I may move on to the next project, Sons of Mars, which many of you seem to already be interested in joining anyway.

I'm all for continuing, because I really don't want a violent nuclear end. If you want to have a "photo-finish", where the terrorists are apprehended and the world moves on without being consumed in nuclear fire, I'm happy with that too.

Alien invasion, with human civilization destroyed either by alien firepower or alien diseases.

I'm inactive? I've been watching the whole time, just never saw a reason to post while the game was down.

Happy endings are boring, not to mention unrealistic.

World-destroying endings are exactly the same on both counts.

Not really. Something similar to what I suggested happened at least once before.

Happy endings on the other hand... well, we all die in the end, don't we?

    For Continuation:

    II (Civplayah, WIM)

    For Epilogue:

    III (TK, Mad Man, CivG)

    For Whichever:

    II (Math, Arakhor)

Math and Arakhor both are fine either way but have conditions for an ending - Math wants it happy, Arakhor wants it reasonable but not necessarily pixies and rainbows.

TK's conditions for an ending are an alien invasion of some sort. Scrin references are needed!

This game was alot of fun while it lasted, but it's time to end it and move on to the next project. As for the ending, I say we make it sad but with a funny twist.

    Epilogue

    Russia's Fate (2071 - 2078)

The Russian Civil War would continue until 2078, constantly fueled by new disputes. Coalitions would fall apart just as quickly as they were made. Any alliances would dissolve at the first opportunity and fighting would resume.

Russia had been sapped of most of its strength in the wars that massacred much of its population centers, making the rebels ever stronger. Only with the support of the EEC could Russia contain the rebels.

...but it did not come easy. The rebels increasingly received assistance from blacks ops and the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood didn't favor any particular faction, but it did eventually start its own in the eastern segments.

Rife with corruption, incompetence, and at war on all sides, the Yukov system fell apart into military dictatorship out of necessity. It further made a desperate deal with EEC members to win the war: if they assisted, they would receive land.

Alefurya's assistance yielded Estonia, the Angevins' the rest of Finland, the Levantines Moldova, while the Tibetans received some territories on the Eastern Frontier. The Byzantines assisted in retaking much of Ukraine, especially the Black Sea regions, but didn't request anything besides naval access in certain cities, and the southwestern tip of Crimea as a presence in the area. Byzantium, after all, had gotten rid of Ukraine before.

...the Caucasus and Russia south of Volgagrad was another kettle of fish. While ethnic tension was at historic lows due to the practical genocide of most people there by warmongering nations in the past, it became a land of opportunity not so much to the people who lived there, but the countries surrounding it. The Caliphate, though joining the EEC and becoming politically distanced from Islam, still had a problem controlling the many jihadists who enjoyed popular support throughout the border territories. Militias would cross into Russian territory and kill or convert non-Muslims, and some would settle there illegally. Eventually, Russia parted with much of the region, giving much of it to the Caliphate or the Angevin puppet regime in Georgia.

Russia emerged from its Civil War with millions dead and a great loss of land to its allies. What they still kept was horrifically damaged. Russia would spend the coming decades focusing on healing any possible rifts, taking secessionist threats seriously, and trying to overall promote peace and prosperity - by any means necessary. Their military power was greatly curtailed to this end, and they preferred to leave the big decisions to their allies. Russia would turn over its Indian territories to joint EEC control, unable to afford the burden. Due to the fact the Angevins had been granted so much land contrasted to Alefurya - a traditional friendly rival of the Angevins - Russia ceded its territories in the Benelux to Alefurya.

    American Troubles

In 2072, La Plata elected a nationalist, left-wing President, Gaspar de Soto. De Soto said that La Plata had a rich history in the Incan Empire, fluffing it up with nationalist fervor. He said that Byzantium had no right to the lands it had occupied in the aftermath of the Pan-American War, and demanded them back.

The Byzantine government, known for its swings between lust for land and generosity in giving it, at first leaned toward returning it to avoid the trouble. However, Overlord Arbeiter of Alefurya said Byzantium had claimed the land and bettered it, and so deserved ownership far more than a country that had a claim to it solely because of some "great" empire. Eventually, saber-rattling almost caused a war, but the status quo antebellum resumed. The Angevins offered to mediate, though its officials were rumored to in private to criticise Arbeiter for nearly triggering yet another bloody war, this time between the Hemispheres.

It was agreed a referendum would be held, and later on, the margin of staying with Byzantium was 41% (with 39% in favor of unification with La Plata and 20% in favor of independence as Gran Ecuador), sealing its place. Even in the runoff, Byzantium still came ahead at 52%. There were rumors of fraud, but these were dismissed.

A world war was averted, but the fear of one was increasingly justified.

    Asia's Shift (2074-2079)

As the Russian War dragged on, the Brotherhood's stagnation triggered the renewal of hostilities in Asia between the Manchu and Communist forces. The Communists defeated the Manchus, re-establishing the USSR. As an anarchist collective, the society was repulsed by most other countries in the world. ...it eventually would find a friend in the Brotherhood chapters of Soviet Mongolia, albeit covertly. They shared the goal of bringing down the global set of powers. The USSR's central government arranged for several supporters of closer ties with other states to be assassinated by the Brotherhood to cover up suspicion.

Tibet, meanwhile, switched sides and joined the GSA in 2077. Tibet's leaders were sore over India, being beaten out of it. Furthermore, Tibet had always had a desire for more power and influence; it was that which triggered a nuclear war years before. It found itself increasingly eclipsed in the EEC, as it became more Eurocentric and after the Caliphate displaced Tibet as the Asian heavyweight in the alliance. Tibet took control of the GSA almost immediately, dominating weaker Liberia and Abyssinia, and sharing power with the East Indies.

The Day the World Shook (January 1, 2081)

After years of low Brotherhood activity, the world had let its guard down. Rumors went that the leadership had splintered, and so the various local branches were treated as independent threats by each government. Other priorities took over, and states resumed bickering.

    ...it was a fatal mistake.

People took down Christmas decorations around the world and replaced them with wreathes for the dead. All over the world, a mass attack by the Brotherhood commenced.

At 12:01 AM local time, during a New Years' celebration, the Governor of New Zealand was killed by a sniper.

Attacks spread across the world within an hour, claiming the lives of many individuals. The USMCA President, Vice President, and several high-ranking officials were all killed when a bomb went off in their plane. President Gaspar de Soto, who had become de facto dictator of La Plata, was kidnapped, while everyone with him was summarily executed. The Liberia legislature was destroyed by a massive bomb late into the day's session, killing 73% of all present and seriously injuring or disabling almost all survivors. Beyond the countless bombings, the synchronised attacks also saw hits on outposts and small military bases around the world, regardless of affiliation. Inside jobs became rampant as groups of soldiers turned on and killed their commanding officers.

Overall, a combination of assassinations, violence, and infiltrators killed thousands of officials and their aides across the world, across nationality and across alliances. Gaspar de Soto was tortured and executed on videotape, and broadcast around the world, as a symbol of ignorance and greed.

The massive series of attacks left people the world over shaken. Everyone, from the lowest citizen to the heads of state, were overcome by paranoia. Everywhere one looked there was an agent of the Brotherhood.

Paxius, formerly Abel Connery, took credit for the terrorist attacks almost immediately. He claimed that the leaderships of the world had finally been given their dues for their moral corruption, making note of the great attacks on the hospitals years before. It had become apparent that through the wars of the states, Abel had used his "experiment in anarchism" - referring to the mass decentralisation that supposedly represented a destroyed Brotherhood - to gain millions of followers around the globe.

...and growing. By helping the injured, ill and poor, the common masses continued to rally in support of the Brotherhood, buying into their propaganda that they were left to die by their governments. Scandals were released against officials everywhere, making anti-government sentiment surge.

The world's governments increasingly restricted liberties. Most notable was the Arbeiter Empire, which became totalitarian in all but name. Millions were rounded up as "infiltrators" and sentenced to the Neuralyser. The age of techo-slavery had begun. Rebels were publicly decried as fighting for the Brotherhood, rather than against the government. EEC states began to discuss what to do with Arbeiter's violations of basic legal and human rights, but they were paralysed by the inconvenience of alienating the world's largest economy(formerly second-largest, but China's devastation had given them the keys) locked any serious proposal up for good. Furthermore, Arbeiter revealed he had a backup treaty with GSA states in case his allies ever turned on him.

With the "blemish of European civilisation" locked in the EEC for the time being, the EEC and all other alliances focused on the common threat: the Brotherhood of the Palatinate.

    The Global Counter-Terrorism Alliance

GCTA "Gickta" was the natural response of all states against the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood had always claimed unification of human consciousness as a goal, and did they succeed. Except it was united against them. Defense and security became increasingly integrated, the former alliances being frozen. Politics became centered on the destruction of the Brotherhood and elimination of its appeal.

The Angevins and Brazilians were perhaps the first major source of cooperation. They understood that the Brotherhood tended to find its supporters among the most destitute, like countless terrorist groups before it. Therefore, they introduced a treaty that all states signed, providing for universal healthcare, a guaranteed minimum income, cheaper education, and overall, agreements meant to improve the range and quality of services available to the masses. Conservatives derided it as reckless statism and a case of "the enemy within" while Socialists derided it as a plan to fortify the bourgeiose, but both groups quickly lost credibility due to how nearly every chart showed Brotherhood recruitment going down shortly after.

General Arbeiter, long fighting an insurgency since he seized absolute power years ago, came next, introducing anti-rebel agreements that were held behind closed doors. Between wiretapping and the planting of double and triple agents, various security measures were taken to weaken the Brotherhood. All these programs were carried out in secret under Arbeiter's suggestion - "What the public doesn't know, neither shall the Brotherhood."

Caribbea passed looser laws on gun control, believing that arming the populace would help against the Brotherhood. In line with its cultural doctrine of localism and states' rights, many local militias were organised by these armed citizenry at the national government's advisory. The world seemed quite disgruntled when they noticed Brotherhood attacks seemed to decline in the former United States due to more and more people martyring themselves rather than give in to their demands.

The Caliphate, Carthagistan, and Tibet all worked with leaders to purge their vast domains of Brotherhood activity. For the first time in history, the air fleets of the three major alliances would fly together on bombing runs, destroying countless terrorist bases.

The USSR's suggestion of making sure the Brotherhood did not trick them into bombing more civilian targets did its part to make sure almost all those killed were terrorists. The USSR would be the prime gatherer of intelligence due to extensive double agents in the Brotherhood.

    Rediscovering the Revolution

In 2086, the incumbent Soviet regime was ousted. The new regime was quick to make plans to publish the ties its predecessors had to the Brotherhood. At the same time, countless agents were rounded up and imprisoned for suspicion of actually being double agents loyal to the Brotherhood.

After purging its ranks of suspected traitors, the USSR revealed the horrible collaboration between the previous regime and the Brotherhood. While the kneejerk reaction was outrage, many people would soon be indebted: the USSR had forwarded planned assassinations to world leaders, thus saving the Generalissimo of the CVR and Sultan of Carthagistan from certain death.

In the meantime, some of the few agents not purged by the USSR worked to claim that the USSR's government was faulty and that their true alliance rested with the Brotherhood, not the "lame duck" USSR's officials. This would help assist the Brotherhood's downfall.

    The Fall of Evil

Elsewhere, the nephew of Karl von Stacheligel and Princess Alicia of Alefurya had become the thorns in the side of the Arbeiter regime. In the year 2082, ages 28 and 31, respectively, they led the insurgency of Alefurya to victory. Storming the palace and making the dictator's greatest strength - technology - his greatest weakness, Arbeiter was killed in combat. Quite romantically, the battle was upon the Palace rooftop, with Arbeiter falling to his death afterward.

Almost immediately, the country changed. All social rights were reinstated without question. Plans were made to privatise the economy again, however slowly. Unions were allowed to be independent anew, no longer puppets of control. While many security measures were to remain in place, Arbeiter's totalitarianism was erased.

The cornerstone of his dictatorship, the Neuralyser, was soon switched off for all but the most dangerous criminals. The Resistance had worked for nearly two decades on a device capable of nullifying the Neuralyser, and by linking countless victims into the system and sending out a nullifying pulse, free will was restored to almost every one. Vast amounts of families were reunited.

...then, the Resistance's leaders, now the Alefuryan Crowned Republic, discovered one of Arbeiter's most vile plans: he would capture Brotherhood leaders/members, Neuralyse them without detection, have them released on no charges or "escape" and use them to control the Brotherhood from within as a personal hit squad. It was disgusting, it was horrid, it was... genius.

Arbeiter's Operation: Ouroboros never came to fruition due to his demise, but the plan nonetheless had its merits. Alefurya eventually captured several Brotherhood members and put them under the influence of the Neuralyser - the moral justification was it was the same as prison but now restricting the muscles directly rather than through the use of walls - and arranged for them to be sent to a high-security prison deep beneath the surface off the coast of Morocco(Alicia's father, King Maximilian, was held here after being banished by Giuliano Retiebra). The official ruling was, "Though they deserve death, we are better than them in our pursuit of human rights. They will spend the rest of their lives isolated from society, to think about their horrid crimes." Then, the location of the prison was supplied to the Brotherhood through inconspicuous agents, some of whom even Alefurya believed were disloyal.

...the Brotherhood took the bait. Hijacking a transport vessel, the Brotherhood liberated their captured colleagues and also took the time to rescue some other officials in the base. As many of them worked for Arbeiter, security feeds and witnesses would relay the message to the wider world, associating the Brotherhood with Arbeiter's remnants, discrediting them as the crusaders they made themselves out to be.

The Neuralysed double agent would, two years later, get an audience with Abel Connery. Once it was confirmed he was there, a message was sent out to all world militaries. Several province-busters later, Abel Connery, or Paxius, and the double agent were dead. The double agent supplied information on other Brotherhood bases, and in the resulting Operation: Firestorm, most of the Brotherhood's ranks were purged. Every Paladin was dead. The rank-and-file found themselves increasingly disillusioned, deserting back to civilian life, or splintered into factions seeking to purify the Brotherhood. While it was morally questionable in its application, the Brotherhood was destroyed. The Alefuryan government made plans to disclose the operations, reverse most security measures, and destroy the Neuralyser and all its blueprints.

It was to be a new era of peace and prosperity for all human and furrykind, unified through common struggle between themselves.

...But the Eighth Paladin, the man next in line for the Seventh Paladin position, would make this difficult. Silvio Retiebra, nephew and close advisor of General Retiebra - and supposedly working for the Resistance against his uncle - had played the Resistance, the Brotherhood, and the Arbeiter forces all for fools. He planned to succeed where the latter two had failed - the world would be his.

But that's a story, for another time.

    Thank you all for playing!
