well we have at max 18 billion barrels of oil that we forgot to mine. is it really that important to warrant vassalage? most of that probably cant be recovered.
edit: we havent produced the zombie virus, and even ifs separatists did it, we would be aware of it. not many ships leave the Republic you know.

It's a start. Don't think of it as vassalage. Think of it as a nation who is willing to invest heavily into your nation's infrastructure, increasing the standard of living in your nation greatly, for relatively little.

oil is cheaper than bottled water, thank to the caliphate, but i can say with a straight mind that i accept the ECS's protection.

In exchange, the ECS will begin temporary funding the mining and drilling sectors of Madagascar with the hope that this boost in the economy will allow for the funding of industrialization. Our goal is to help Madagascar transition from a resource-extraction based economy to an economy based on manufacturing.
With this idea, we hope that Madagascar will actually become something akin to Taiwan before the final Great War broke out.

OOC: Historically, Madagascar suffers from being away from the main trade centers, being underpopulated, and lacking any real development. Madagascar currently has a problem of overlogging and being a resource-extraction based economy. Somehow, I can't see how in the 90 or so years of global war Madagascar would be better off somehow.
Notice you said manufacturing potential which you guys do have. However, I don't think that Madagascar would have much in the way of industry when it suffers from not having much in the way of natural resources (unless you control more on the map than I can see) and having to rely on cash crops like coffee.
Eralatuk could be a big trade partner with you actually. They have plenty in the way of untapped natural resources. If Madagascar could become a tiny industrial powerhouse like Japan and Germany did, then you and Eralatuk could do much in the way of trade. Natural resources for manufactured consumer goods.

yeah. Madagascar was in civil war for most of the time. even now the federal democracy tends to be a little unstable. however the population increased to 50 million during the time, the real census was only conducted recently.
i thought Madagascar is in a strategic location? therefore the trade potential shoudl be higher. but if the above is true, then i pretty much chose the perfect island for isolationism.
well vanilla is still widely used. coca cola isn't out of business yet.
but yes, we needed to diversify the economy.yeah.. but Eralatuk sort of ignores me most of the time. or the thread moves to fast the for their leadership to notice. and that requires a fair sized manufacturing econmy already in place.

we are cutting down the military from 2.5 million to just 50,000 active, no reserves. since the planned war with chuck Norris is no longer possible, we see no need for a huge military. most of the navy is dismantled to save money. and we need to focus on the economy.
...by the way, all 50,000 soldiers are currently used by new England.

Madagascar is strategic when the Suez Canal is closed off. Of course, the East Asian nations just can go west to trade with America but its between the Europeans and Asia where either the Suez Canal or Madagascar become relevant.
Besides, as anyone who've played the game to attest to, Madagascar with its lack of infrastructure and its single port is the perfect place to isolate one self in in case of a of Pandemic.

you mean a single port that actually works. Ive got other coastal cities, but their ports either don't exist or don't work. in fact when someone attacks the northwest province, i am no longer capable of attacking anyone outside of the island. just a little self rule to keep with the lack of infrastructure.

the Mathalamus Republic is too busy to attend the Olympics. we need to fix our crappy island before thinking about training the people for those activities.
