So...I created my super AIs in custom assets, not normal assets this time. I have an interesting problem though. I wanted to go back to normal. So, I simply moved the leaderheadinfo XML out of my custom assets folder. Attempts to play the game normally failed - the super AIs were still there.

OK. So, I deleted the file entirely, along with my entire custom assets folder (I obviously have the zip file on the forum). And?

I STILL HAVE "WATER POISON" and "RUNAWAY AI" IN MY GAMES!!!

How is this possible? Where is it sourcing the XML code for this? I checked my regular assets, and they are absolutely, positively, 100% normal. So normal, in fact, that HoF mod seems to run with them just fine. So, it's drawing from a file I completely obliterated from my computer, including the folder it was located in...am I just missing this somewhere? Is there a secret custom assets folder or something that gets created separate from the one I originally put the file in ?

I think it caches the XML, there is a way to force a reread of it but I don't know how ;)

But I looked it up, hold down shift while loading.

I remember reading that for those having trouble joining online games, they should also remove xml cache to fix problems. I"m not sure if it's just wishful thinking, or honestly does resolve some of the issues.

Hi

Way back b4 my old computer crashed I go a idea from kmad of making a leader with ALL the traits. I just editied one of the leaders in the leaderheadinfo.xml or one of those files and put the editied copy in my custom assets.

It was neat and fun but whenever I took that custom file OUT of custom assets the old cumstomized leader was STILL in the game.

I asked about it in the techy forum and was also told it cuz it was loading from cache but didnt find out anyway to force it to uncache.

Not being smart enuff to find out how to force it to load uncached I just did this--whenever I took the customized xml folder out I would replace it with a copy of the default version of that file in custom assets and it worked :) So you could try that if nothing else works.

I also noticed this--when I got a new computer that could handle mods I started using bug mod then bat mod and when I do it ALWAYS loads uncached now. No idea how it makes it do that though but maybe it gives an idea where to look or something to force it to uncache.

Go to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\My Games\Beyond the Sword\cache ( in vista.... I don't recall how exactly is in XP, but it should be similar ) and delete the content. Otherwise press Shift while the game is loading ..... Both clear the cache.

Obsolete

Indeed, clearing the cache helps with some problems with oversized mods/maps ( because the game doesn't have to load the cache, see that you don't want what's in the cache , unload it and load the correct stuff ). It is not a lifesaver in all ocasions though :(
