Improved City View (for Vox Populi/Community Balance Overhaul/Community Patch)

  • Tired of searching for your specialists?
  • Fed up with scrolling through your neverending list of buildings and wonders?
  • Puzzled by the far too huge focus box in the city view screen?

Then the improved city view offers the solution! :goodjob:

Spoiler :

Download:

Get here the general version without the wonder and building boxes, here the extended version with these boxes, and here the one specific to EUI (without building and wonder boxes currently).

Description
Building on the version for Brave New World this interface mod provides a much more concise city view screen making your daily life with CiV easier.

Install Instructions

Follow the instructions for your type of Vox Populi installation (currently 1.7.15). Then load the mod as usual and make sure you tick the small interface option (in the CiV's main options).

1. Vox Populi (with EUI)

For the general version follow the full instructions under a) and b), for the integrated version (with EUIs Prod. Queue) ignore b).

a) Get the mod from the Steam Workshop and delete* the following files from your VP (with EUI) installation in your CiV MODS folder:
.../MODS/(6a) Community Balance Overhaul - Compatibility Files (EUI)/LUA/CityView.lua
.../MODS/(6a) Community Balance Overhaul - Compatibility Files (EUI)/LUA/CityView_small.xml

b) Also delete* the following from the EUI DLC folder:
.../Sid Meier's Civilization V/assets/DLC/UI_bc1/CityView/ProductionPopup.lua
.../Sid Meier's Civilization V/assets/DLC/UI_bc1/CityView/ProductionPopup.xml

2. Vox Populi (no EUI)

Get the mod from the Steam Workshop and delete* the following files from your VP (no EUI) installation in your CiV MODS folder:
.../MODS/(6b) Community Balance Overhaul - Compatibility Files (No-EUI)/LUA/CityView.lua
.../MODS/(6b) Community Balance Overhaul - Compatibility Files (No-EUI)/LUA/CityView_small.xml

3. Community Balance Overhaul

Get the mod from the Steam Workshop and delete* the following files from your CBO installation in your CiV MODS folder:
.../MODS/(2) Community Balance Overhaul/LUA/CityView.lua
.../MODS/(2) Community Balance Overhaul/LUA/CityView_small.xml

4. Community Patch

Unfortunately, this mod will not work with the Community Patch alone. But the version for Brave New World does - get it here.

* Feel free to backup these files before deleting.

Also delete* the following from the EUI DLC folder:
.../Sid Meier's Civilization V/assets/DLC/UI_bc1/CityView/ProductionPopup.lua
.../Sid Meier's Civilization V/assets/DLC/UI_bc1/CityView/ProductionPopup.lua

Presume you mean .../Sid Meier's Civilization V/assets/DLC/UI_bc1/CityView/ProductionPopup.xml for second one?

Huge improvement on the specialist's box.

Using Vox Populi (with EUI) (1.07.27) and after deleting the four files it messes my production up. Can't access the queue, furthermore the list is rather big and one has to scroll a lot in later eras. Small interface is activated.

O.k. - it works fine with 1.07.15. I had not seen the update. Let me check this. I will unfortunately only be able to do this tomorrow.

Any chance to add just the specialist/wonder box versions?

I am sorry I do not understand. What do you want to add to which version of the interface? Or put it differently, what do you not like?

I mean, I love the specialist interface, but I still like the vanilla wonder interface. So, I'd like a specialist only box. Is that a possibility?

thanks, I suppose something has changed with the new version of VP as I never got this error... I will check...

I still plan to try a novel version with EUI from scratch and I can consider that...

I checked the new version 1.07.27 with EUI (there are actually no diffs. in the two files on cityview).

- I deleted the previous edition manually from the mods folder (and the bc1 folder from the DLCs).
- I installed the new version.
- I deleted the four files.
- I started a new game and all is fine...

Did you try to start a new game just for comparison...?

The big production list is like that for me by default, and not the same as in EUI - for that I need to do a full, manual integration (I am planning on that, but I cannot make promises).

Really strange - I do not even change that part, so it should not be affected - the new version does not affect it either. Could you retry with a clean install of Vox Populi and starting a new game?

That is from a clean install (of 7/27 VP w/EUI) and a new game.
I double checked the steps listed above under: 1. Vox Populi (with EUI).

o.k. that is odd.

Since I cannot replicate the problem it is difficult for me to say.

You could try:

1. Delete (one of) the following folders in your .../MyGames/Sid Meier's ... Civ 5 folder : Cache, Logs, ModUserData (taken from one Mod by Estebanium) - in case there is some problems with the data stored there - I personally never experienced this either, but I read about it repeatedly, so it is an option

2. Check for other incompatible mods (if you are using them)

3. Reput the deleted Production... files into bc1's DLC subfolder and replace the two city view files in my mod (temporarily) with the ones you deleted from the ...(6a)... subfolder - this should work now as if my mod was not there (this does obviously not fix it, but may allow to limit the search for the problem...)

Sorry for the inconvenience...

Really like what you did here! That being said, I really liked what EUI did with the production queue and unit/building/tile purchasing. Is there any way I can still have those while having your changes to the right side of the city view (specialist, wonders, etc)?
