In my current game, I've had three civs declare war on me at different times, each ending badly for them. But now they are all still "Furious" with me. Hey, they attacked me!

How do you go about making amends with a former enemy? Their attitude seems to affect trying to trade. Two have luxuries I'd like to trade for, but want ridiculus offers for it. On the other hand the other two civs, one gracious (ROP & MP) the other polite will trade very willingly.

I've tried gifts of maps, money, tech, and luxuries, for 20 turn spurts to try to make peace, but no help. The only thing I can figure is I still occupy many of their "former" cities. Is the only way I can improve their Furious attitude is by giving them back?

I didn't declare war, they did, and I didn't raze any of their cities. They're actually better off now. ;)

are they(were they) in an allance, I reckon(thought I may be wrong) that civs that have allied againts you treat you with even moe contempt.
try building a useless city, and just giving it to them, that almost definately improves attutude, and when trading, do not ask for too much, be generous, as soon as you get to annoyed status, building a strong relation is easy.
In addition, check the relative power of your civs.

Gifts and trade help.

The more you trade with a civ the better its attitude will become. However gifts improve it faster.
Usually I give spare luxuries and 1 gp per turn to a defeated opponent and have found this speeds up the reconciliation. I think but have no proof that it is the number of gifts rather than the size that matters. Also even if a civ hates you it is less likely to go to war if it stands to lose gp or resources.

One thing I believe negitively affects a civs attitude to you is accepting a culture flip - can any one confirm this?
