Improving on Monarch level

I don't see any pictures above. Did you delete the attachments? Then it won't work (obviously).

Oh no  I tried to fix the double image problem: Uploaded with the "Manage Attachments Window" (and I thought they are stored on the civfanatics host after that), added the IMG tags to the text with the URL that the Manage window gave me, copied my whole text into clipboard, closed the "Reply to thread" page and clicked on Reply again, pasted the text from clipboard into the text box and saved. In my browser I didn't see a problem, apparently the images are stored in my browser cache. But I tried now another browser and - aaarrrgh... OK, this trick does not work, it seems that the images are not stored through the Manage Attachments tool but when saving the post. I fix my posts with the broken images later. How are you doing this, Pangaea? I see you have posts with embedded images (image URL refering to civfanatics.com) but no attached image.

Played to turn 149, 780AD, and took two cities.
Spoiler :
Haven't lost any attackers, but have lost 4-5 catapults, and have taken the city in the east and Eridu. Two longbows in Eridu, so you'll be faced with them pretty quickly. As long as you have plenty of siege, however, it should be fine. Hopefully you can take all his cities before Castles appear, which shouldn't be a problem because Giggles is really backwards.

National Epic is complete, the south is cleared of barbs and fogbusted with 2 warriors and 2 archers. The western barb galley is gone to a trireme, but I'm not sure where the southern one went yet.

Used the spare GS to bulb most of Lib, and then put 0% research into Gunpowder. Didn't really pay much attention to micro management and such, and maybe it would be better to start on Nationalism instead. I kind of like the idea of Divine Right, however. I traded Paper+Drama for Machinery with Charlie, and you should then be able to get Engineering from Mansa for DR. Nationalism isn't something I'd want to trade away early anyway, as it jeopardises Taj Mahal, which you definitely want.

Bummer about Mansa peace vassaling to Ramsses instead, because he's a great vassal to have.

Spoiler :
I'm at 880 now, have taken 2 cities as well (2 cats lost+1 jumbo), had also 2 longbows in Eridu (+city walls) and 1 in the jungle east of the city. I've healed most of my stack and I'm moving towards Giggles capital now. Fish tile survived, after moving my Trireme the Barb Galley got distracted, attacked me and lost. The second Galley attacked me shortly after and lost as well. However, BIG EVENT (now outside spoiler :)...):

Turn 154 - 880 AD

BIG NASTY EVENT: Gilgamesh accepted being vassal of Charlemagne and Charlemagne declared war on me and Zara!

And that after a few trades more with him, nothing helped to bring him to pleased. At the moment I cannot see any stack of BurgerKing moving towards my territory. Close to the former Ur he founded Florence which is now his city closest to my border. But it only has 2 Spearmen in it right now. Cannot bribe Ramesses against him because he considers BurgerKing as close friend (shared favorite civic).

I'm moving towards Giggles' capital with basically my whole army. Question is if I need to cancel that campaign. I'd say no as long as I don't see a real threat. But perhaps it's better now to produce a few longbows in HE city, isn't it?

Think I get the so-called double picture too, when I add pictures using Manage Attachments and post the picture in an IMG tag on top. I right-click and copy the link in the manage attachment window, but it probably just does the same as you do.

In the Writeup for instance I've uploaded the pictures to photobucket, so then I don't use the manage attachments feature.

I don't know how the map looks like exactly, but wasn't BK also at war with Giggles because you bribed him? Then his stack could also be on the way to the cities you conquered from Giggles.
Producing 2 Longbows in the HE city for sure will not hurt, as you can also use them with your offensive forces to secure a newly conquered city.
If you're fast, you can kill Giggles before BKs stack reaches you and conduct peace. Should he appear with a stack somewhere, whip some walls, then he will bombard them down giving you a lot time to gather some dedenders.

If you want, you can also see this as a chance to conquer BK without getting diplo hits and with getting Zara to friendly. Once you got Cannons, rolling over BK will be a cakewalk.

A little tricky to say much without access to the game, but at a guess I would suggest to keep up the war, and stay on the offensive. Catas + Elephants are still strong, though against longbows they obviously struggle more than against archers and axes/swords. Taking his capital sounds like a good idea, and then you can re-evaluate.

This stuff with vassals really suck, and I think it's a lousy feature, but it is what it is. Suddenly you're in a war you didn't plan or intend for at all. A way to avoid this is to beg money for a 10-turn peace treaty with civs that may get your target as a vassal. But you need to be pleased with them of course, so maybe this wasn't an option in your game.

I'd say you just keep producing attackers in the HE city. If you see a stack coming in, you can get out a longbows or two in time anyway, probably, because he'll probably come with siege, and that means they'll bomb down the defence first. Therefore, a wall will give you some extra turns to prepare. But don't do that until it's really needed. Maybe you are fortunate and can take more cities from Giggles first, and then push into Charlie's land. Protected longbows are proper evil though :(

Capital should whip a Forge and then continue on a University. Note: This University shall not finish. Stop building it plz when it's a 2pop-whip with max OF. There are yellow marks on the production-bar, which let you know when that is. After Uni, build a Market in the same way as the Uni, so stopit at the right time. After that, build a Temple and also stop it at the right time. Report on this. What we want is to whip all 3 buildings on the same turn, to generate 3 times max OF, which hopefully be enough to 1T Oxford.

Any questions?

Yes. Why whip on the same turn? Surely you'd get the same result whipping on successive turns, but with the added benefit of extra tiles worked (4 then 2, presuming 2-whips)?

I was wondering about the same thing earlier. But if it indeed works so that you can complete three builds in a single turn, then it makes sense. Either you get the overflow into Oxford 2 turns earlier, or if you are not ready to build Oxford yet, you get 2 turns of working 6 extra tiles, instead of 1 turn of 4 tiles and one of 2.

Only thing I would add is that if you would be whipping out mainly weak tiles, but one or two strong tiles that you'd like to see worked all the time, you can do first whip, regrow while building wealth, then whip more. Don't remember now if Todelotti is in Rep/Caste at the moment. If that's the case then there are no such things as weak tiles.

They won't be completed in the same turn. I sometimes do something similar when big cities come out of revolt after capture, and they will shrink for quite some time. Then I may coldwhip several things to get something out of the pop while I can. They'll be completed one turn at a time, even if you whip them in the same turn.

Haven't tried to amass whip overflow like this to 1-turn Oxford, as I don't like to whip the capital, and especially this hard. Maybe it's worth it though?

Yeah, just tested it myself. As they don't come out at the same time, then I see no reason to whip everything the same turn... So I repeat kevtrev's questions from a few posts above. Why whip on the same turn?

Good thing there's no weak tiles because you can't whip them away if you're in caste.

Whipping on consecutive turns is better, it just never occured to me.

@ pangaea: I also don't like to whip my capital down so hard, but it's definitely worth it, especially with these 3 building of which 2 are musthaves anyhow. Capitals also have good food most times, and the smaller foodbars get filled up quite fast, so regrowth won't take that long.

I'm still wondering when Todelotti's head will explode :goodjob: :D

It did then finally yesterday :crazyeye: The final kick gave me another Barb Galley. This time I stayed on a coastal tile for the 10% defense bonus, that nasty piece of rotten wood attacked me ... AND SHOT MY FINE HIGH TECH TRIREME INTO PIECES AGAIN :mad::cry::mad::mad: I flicked my head barely now, but if there comes another Barb Galley I stop all those universities, bulb Combustion and what not straight away and run *Battleship in every coastal city til the end of the game...

When you open the log (upper left corner) you can see what chances galley had. If I'd have to guess, I'd say something like 2% ^^

...but wasn't BK also at war with Giggles because you bribed him?

No no, he was never a pleased Burger. I traded and gifted such a lot with him but he remained cautious the whole game. It was only possible to bribe Zara against Giggles. I believe the main problem to bring him to pleased was that Mansa was his worst enemy for a very long time and I coudn't avoid that BK disliked my tech trades with Mansa.
