Doesn't it remove only the "distance from capital" maintenance costs? You are still saddled with the other maintenance costs of having cities on the other landmass.
Aye, but Colonial maintenance is limited by distance maintenance (I am not sure of the max, but IIRC it is 2x the distance costs). So decreasing distance maintenance can decrease Colonial maintenance, it will still be there, just lower.Doesn't it remove only the "distance from capital" maintenance costs? Actually, the colonial maintenance is tied to distance maintenance (at least it is in 3.13) so the FP will actually reduce your maintenance MORE then it would if it was on the same landmass. Because of this, the colony feature is essentially worthless.
I always save FP for the new world. Always.
Me too, but I always build Versailles on the same continent on as my capital. It's very handy to have both because I usually have a large empire.
Not to mention the high hammer cost of Versailles, especially in a new city (400with marble, 800
without vs. 200
for FP).
All in all, I love to conquer Versailles, since very rarely will I settle 3 continents (Palace, FP, and Versailles).
