... I played my last game of Civ IV today. It was bitter-sweet. I am sure that I will go back to Civ IV; in fact, I know that I will. But, I also know that today was the last time that I will play it for a very long time. It also marks the first time in three years that Civ IV hasn't been on my laptop... sad, sad day. :( I played as England - Elizabeth to be exact, on Prince and won a Space Race victory. I even took out Monty - which doesn't happen very often in my games. I am ready to move on... but, I must say, uninstalling the game from my laptop in preparation for Civ V certainly brought back some memories.

I know I most likely have played my last 'vanilla' Civ4 game but have been enjoying some of the more complex mods lately. The thing that I have in back of my mind was what happened when Civ3 came out. I had been playing Civ2 for years and towards the end, strictly scenarios and mods. I tried Civ3 for a few months but it sucked, so I went back to the Civ2 scenarios until Civ4 came out. I don't think Civ5 will be like the Civ3 experience but I will not uninstall Civ4 for at least a while.

In preparation for Civ 5 I've been playing lots of Civ IV and during breaks I check out this forum...can't wait for Friday 24th! :)

Heh. SGOTM12 just got underway. :) I will be playing plenty of Civ IV for a long time yet.

Maybe not sleeping very much, to find time for both games. But who needs that?

I've turned to playing Age of Empires III and it's expansions until the release. I think this will hold me over until the 21st. :)

I have stocked up on water / coke and chips. Made a pact with my wife, been nice to my 2 kids and prepared the oldest so she is excited aswell and to get more time I have set up my work so I have a task I can do from home at half the time needed, the other half i can hopefully play civ5.

I'm trying to get some extra work done so i can prepare to slack once it's released.

Haha, yeah. I played a game today as Catherine and had a great 20 city civ vs 20 city civ showdown in the industrial era. I won :).

Epic. That is all.

I'm making the final polishing touches to my Civ 4 mod.

I have had some dreaded thoughts about Civ 5, that will make all the work I did in Civ 4 seem wasted, but then realised over 80% of that time was actual research and only 20% in coding. I even spent over 3 months not even pressing the "next-turn" button.

So with Civ 5 coming out, I have mixed feeling of anticipation for the new and sorrow for Civ 4. I have stopped playing Civ 2/3 a long time ago (Still have the disks somewhere.)

Haha, I know what you mean but sometimes you have to know when to move on ;D

Time to go from the beggining. Btw, I have one though that is bodering me. Who will be able to learn to play civ 5 faster, newbies, who aren't weighted with past versions and they will think about civ 5 as a completely new game and won't be complaining and yapping abot how some things were removed, or experienced players? What do you think when we are already talking about our civ experiance?

After reading the manual, as an experienced player, it is not significantly different from Civ 4, so an experienced Civ player will feel right at home very quickly.

You're right. I read manual pretty fast because I know wat I should read and what I shouldn't. I surely won't be reading worker actions and unit power numbers because I will forget it. I'll learn that when I get my civ 5 in Friday:D.

i think the developers has left lots of room for mods and theirs expandable additions. Off course vanilla should stay simple and clear..which i think civ 4 didnt manage to do. Perhaps in Civ 6 they should think i a way to improve easier mod creation tools for simple user...

Civ 5 isn't out and you're talking what they should do in civ VI???

Can't wait! :D

off course..always think ahead..i now that civ V has no religion and espionage which is enough for me to think that way...also what i saw on two preview and manual make me believe that much more coud be done and with right implementation sucesfully adopted to the game mechanics...but please this is not criticism clearly just my personal notice...my previous post didnt meant to be offensive or underestimative, just a little influenced by expectations which were really great..still are..;)
