And other awesome (US presidential) inauguration hats.

I ran into this article on huffpo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/07/inauguration-attire-bring_n_155843.html

Once upon a time, when men were elected to the highest office in the land, they marked their first day in that office, otherwise known as the Inauguration, by wearing the most formal accessory in the land: the top hat.

Through photographic research we determined that the last inaugural top hat was worn by Kennedy in 1961 (the only hat at the 1965 ceremony was worn by Lady Bird)... and we think it is high time this elegant tradition came back. Do you agree?

That would lend some elegance to what has become just a media frenzy in past years (and decades).

I think Obama would look very dignified in a top hat. :)

JFK started the trend of not wearing hats in America. Bring back the hat, I say, and what better way to do that than with a top hat.

He should go for the look that Time magazine put him in -- complete with the cigarette holder and jaunty smile.

Traditions suck. Traditions in clothing suck^3 :crazyeye:
Only if they're impractical. For instance, the beefeaters' hats can't be very comfortable or useful.

In Canada, it's traditional for the Finance Minister to buy a new pair of shoes to wear when presenting the budget. It shows his confidence in the country's economy. The styles have varied over the years, but it's always a media event. :D

This year Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will be wearing these shoes:

Spoiler :

The top hats should have been made obsolete way back between 1930s & 1940s.
