I'm in the middle of trying to do some reading for English, and The Last Crusade is on. It's been a while since I've seen it, and my knowledge of history has naturalized grown since. I must say, I am quite anxious to see what the topic of the new movie will be.

New Indian Jones movie? I guess I've been even more isolated here on campus than I thought. When is it supposed to come out and who stars in it?

I believe the movie will follow events similar to those in the PC
game 'The Infernal Machine'.

set in the 1950's (to better explain a more grizzled Mr. Ford)
The bad guys are going to be the Russians. The plot concerns
a machine with a power to enter a different world.
(or something)

Although with the current trend of WW2 anti-german mania,
I wouldn't be suprised if war-obsessed Mr Spielberg goes and
demands the stroy be changed to WW2 again.

Just so indy can take part in Normandy or something.

Last rumour I'd heard, it was something about Atlantis. Of course, this was around the time they had the guy who wrote The Sixth Sense working on it. Since that fell through, I don't know.

I assume that because Indiana Jones has had a storyline about the discovery of the ancient city of Atlantis on the table for several years that they woudl choose that to be the plot for the next movie. When it comes out or who's in it I haven't got a clue.

Personally, Indy is at his best when the subject matter is biblical. Temple of Doom was the least cool of the three.

I agree. Biblical stuff is very interesting, has numerous tie ins with history. Biblical stuff is the most epic of any topic. However, with such important pieces as the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant already done, what else is left?

Indy movies are the best...

I'm sure that the newest installment of Dr. Jones will be outstanding.

No doubt, an Atlantis movie would look wonderful, given the special effects ability.

And the action/comedy aspects of the Indy movies have always been the best in the business...

Although the old movies look very dated now...

I liked the Temple of Doom the best.
And I hope Speilberg follows with a similar plotline.
Although, I also hope old Steve can get over his WW2-fixation.

I am really sick to death of seeing the stereotypical
'All-American hero vs the evil Germans' bull.

I think what we need is more movies with a sense of wonder and fantasy,
(something Speilberg is good at 50% of the time.)

I squirmed, watching indy getting all biblical in the Last Crusade,
the awful Sean Connery,
and the endless racist steroetypes.
(something Speilberg obviously finds funny,
along with Lucas, and the mainly US audience.)

I couldn't care for yet another dumb, squarejaw romp,
I think for the same reason, that is why Ford is loathe to do another...

I've seen interviews with Ford, in which he says he'd do another Indy movie "in a New York minute". I think the only thing holding back the project was the lack of a good story idea.

I don't believe in God, but the first and third films remain my favorite, especially the third.

Good for you.

I think if they are looking for a good story idea,
they had better not ask Speilberg...

I too am an atheist, and I think the Last Crusade was the best. By the way, in which order were the films produced?

I think it'd be cool as hell if Indy had to do something about Paganism, though Steven 'Israel Uber Alles' Spielberg ain't smart enough to pull it off. The religious stuff is cool, but its been done twice. Maybe something about the stonehenge would be awsome.
Unfortunately, Star Wars (stupid movie) takes presidence over Indiana Jones as its a bigger gauranteed commercial success, which is sayin a lot. Incidentely, the only redeeming qaulity about the Star Wars trilogy is Han Solo. Heheh! Otherwise its just a stellar puppet show with that boyscout Luke (really stupid!).

How can you say Sean Connery gave a bad performance? It wasn't his best. but it was Sean Connery! (Though I admit that his newest movie was dumb. The one where he tutored that black kid...)

Anyone got a link to news about this film? -definitely sounds interesting, if they can pick up on those films again! :)

IMO, the first film "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is still the greatest. In fact, it is one of my favourite films for pure entertainment. And its got one of the most brilliant chase scenes made, the scene where Indy struggles his way up a german convoy of trucks.. the brilliant script was written by Lawrence Kasdan, if I remember correctly. Thats pretty interesting, I think, he's a brilliant scriptwriter/director when he gets his act together. (Body Heat, Grand Canyon among others)

Spielberg is okay, but he's best when other people write for him. "Saving Private Ryan" was a brilliant film in many ways, but still it had to be soaked into a totally unnecessary emotional-moral frame with the old man that looks back on his life etc... totally overkill on a story thats perfectly engrossing in itself. Same thing with other recent Spielberg films. Anyone remember Jaws? -now thats an overlooked spielberg film of his young days, without all the fuss. Excellent film.

I'd agree; I think the Indy films were pretty entertaining. I just saw Raiders of the Lost Ark again about a month ago, and it was still fun to watch. My wife has no stomach for science fiction so I get this when she sees an Indy film on  but I'd pay to see a new one.
