Infantry and cavalry unit icons

Alright, let me just ask: Have there been any serious efforts into getting the infantry and cavalry unit icons to look better? I mean, okay, I forgave the longbowman and the camel archer long ago because (1) every unit would have looked the same if it wasn't for them and (2) they have the same neat style.

However, when the expansion packs came around, it all got crappy. The units didn't follow the same style anymore, and yeah they got pretty crappy.

So, uh, I guess my point is: Are there any unit icon graphical modpack/projects out there that improve the current state of the unit icons (maybe kinda like what those guys in the Blue Marble mod did with leaderhead icons)?

I think you should make this YOUR project. You could just make a big atlas.
