Yeah – getting some boats out to watch for Innovia's invasion fleet is probably a very good idea…. Now that they have Astronomy, I suspect we may be pretty high on their hit list.

I'm not opposed to sending a letter… but what would we say?!?

"so… decided to run away from Loco eh? The fast workers really put up a fight?" :mischief:

    Open up trade technology wise?

State that after thier war with Loco, Loco is pretty much out of the game, and from our calcualtions (foreign reportS) they are the next furtherst behind technologically.

We can say how Piffle and Aloha are at war so here is their chance to pull ahead in tech.

But then not suggest any trades and wait to see what they say.

    Yeah I like that.

maybe add another line about that there is no obligation, but just to know the trade channels are open.

and maybe mentioned we have spotted their Caravel of our coast.

    You mean "our" back?

So - would you rather not send anything to avoid what could be considered flaunting our lead Dave?

If you look at Innovia's power graph carefully, they have been gifting units to Aloha.

Wow – good find. I stared and stared at their graph this morning, and I don't see how you can see that. But I believe you! :)

So… am I gathering that we're just going to let sleeping dogs lie?

This came in about 4 hours ago. Memphus indicated that he'll hold the save until we receive the letter :salute:

Should we send a note back to Piffle saying "we can hold the save for up to 12 hours from the time you sent the e-mail"

Or when are you counting the 12 hours from, Memphus?

    The Letter:

Could this possibly be a counterpart to the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive war: Preemptive Peace?

I guess I'm wondering what we'd need from them to ensure this. How about a promise to not trade with Piffle, nor give them money or units or military aid of any sort?

The builder in me loves the idea of getting a Diplomatic win in a multiplayer game.

However, I'm afraid that the Innovians would bring a lot of scorn on themselves by voting for us. I wonder if we have enough votes as it is even if Innovia abstains?

Had a good chat with Dutchfire.
Here's the whole thing (sloppily edited) if you want to read it:
    Spoiler :

    Dutchfire:
    hi
    General_W:
hey there got the note from Innovia... I assume that's what you wanted to talk about?
    Dutchfire:
    indeed
    General_W:
lol - I can't believe you'd think that The Leader, may he live forever, means you any harm!! :mischief:
    General_W:
The Leader welcomes all his children into his embrace. ;)
    General_W:
ok - honestly... we're just starting discussion of your note now.
    Dutchfire:
we have some Locopotamian refugees who are telling other stories :p
    General_W:
    ROFLOL
    General_W:
oh man. We are kind of the bad-guy team aren't we?
    Dutchfire:
well, I've got to admit that our treatment of Loco wasn't always optimal either :mischief:
    General_W:
lol - good point. You're kind of living in a glass house on that one.
    Dutchfire:
and I believe there's some bad blood between Piffle and Aloha as well
    Dutchfire:
that's why we believe there has been enough war already
    General_W:
well - one question we're having already is how would we know we're safe from a last minute UN backstab?
    Dutchfire:
you have >40% of the vote
    Dutchfire:
I believe you've got 44% of the population right now, and 60% is needed
    General_W:
we do? (haven't looked at the Demo screen in a bit, I'll confess)
    General_W:
ok - well if that true it'll be better... but what if you change your mind and we've given you all a lot of time to prepare?
    General_W:
not that we're planning to attack you, or anything I mean.
    Dutchfire:
    lol
    Dutchfire:
well, tbh, I guess you'd still be better prepared, and could still beat us easily then
    Dutchfire:
besides, we're not looking at a really long time here, IIRC only radio and mass media is needed now to get to the UN, and then it has to be built, that could happen quite quickly
    General_W:
ok - well, I'll post this chat.
    General_W:
I guess it doesn't hurt to tell you that I'm open to the idea.
    General_W:
we'll see what The Leader, in his infinite wisdom, has to say about all this.
    Dutchfire:
great, well, I guess we'll see it in a couple of days
    General_W:
so - just to confirm... your team is willing to sign a document saying you'd vote for us in the UN election in exchange for a promise of peace?
    Dutchfire:
    yes, we are

The gist of it is that Innovia (or at least Dutchfire) sounds sincere to me about letting us win peacefully. He argues we have very limited risk since we can't lose in a UN election (since we directly control 44% of the vote – is that accurate?) and that even if Innovia double crosses us, we'd likely just be even stronger compared to them by then and have an even easier time killing them.

My personal feeling on this is that we've pretty clearly won… and will be even more so once we destroy Innovia.
It'll be faster and cleaner to accomplish our victory via the UN – and that lets us move on to maybe a smaller map BTS MTDG game

I would vote to agree to this proposal as long as Innovia promises not to aid Piffle in anyway. Only possible that I can see where this way this plan goes horribly sideways is if Piffle attacks us and has much greater success than I personally think is possible.

    Other thoughts?

Wow, what a surprising twist.

I like the idea of a diplo victory in an MP game, especially in the light of dwindling participation in all teams. However, I wonder about their motivation for proposing this? Just so that they can say their territory remained unharmed?

On the other hand, we don't have a lot to lose. Time is in our favor - only if all teams unite against us, time would be against us. Let's hope that is not the case...

I'd say let's agree to this. And if we get backstabbed, the resulting war will be all the more interesting. :D
