When I try to install the game my install wizard freezes immediatly after starting the install. I click "install" in the wizard, the screen comes up that says "The install shield wizard is installing Civ4" and shows 1 bar of progress and after 15 minutes the progress bar had not moved.

On a related note the directx that came with the game would not install for me, it failed in a similar way. I start the install and it gets to the "Installing components....copying files" progress bar, but makes no progress after 10-15 minutes.

I downloaded DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft's website and installed it no problem.

Any ideas?

Can you provide a compleate stats of your computer, please? :).

PIV 3.2, 2048MB RAM, WinXP Pro SP2, FX5900XT(nVidia driver: 81.85), Realtek AC97 Audio (onboard), direct X 9.0c, 2 WD 250 GIG SATA HDDS in Raid0

Dunno if you need anything else, ran dxdiag...all drivers certified, all tests passed. I've run defrag.

I'm having this exact same problem, and I assume it would be quicker to bump this then make a new topic.

All my things are up to spec, and neither DX nor the game will install... please help.

I also have this same problem. Very frustrating.

By the way, here is the solution:

Let the install run for about an hour and it will finally do something. This is ditto for the patches. So start the install, and even though it won't do anything for a *very* long time let it keep going anyway. Someday it will actually finish and you will be able to play.

This probably won't help but I've seen it fix a few CoD2 issues...

Start>Run>C:\program files\common files

rename the installshield folder to anything other than what it is now.

When the installer runs again it will auto-install installshield, this might help...
