Installation Problem

I need help.

I can't install Yahoo! Messenger on my laptop. I don't know why, since I've installed and used it without any problems some years past.

When I initiate installation, an error message pops up and terminates it. Does anyone have any idea on why this happens?

What's your OS, which version you trying to install?

I'm not sure what it says, cos all I get is the "send error report to microsoft" thing. My OS is Windows XP Pro, and I tried both YM 9 n YM 8.

If possible I would like to avoid formatting

Have you tried Trillian or Miranda?

EDIT: I have Trillian up and running now. Thank you all!

EDIT II: I still hope to have YM installed in the future though.

Bah...not needed. Trillian is perfectly acceptable if you don't need all the fancy bells and whistles that come with the YM client.

Don't forget too that you can log into your mail account, and assuming you have the new version you can chat from there.

The main issue with chatting from my mail account is that i can't upload my photo. Trivial, yes, but it bugs me.

Do you have problems installing other softwares? You may have an overactive anti-virus in that case.

I haven't noticed, I'm only using AVG free version. Could AVG be the cause?

I use AVG and had no problems with it. (Although it has crashed Winamp. False positive.)
