Installation Woes...

For some strange reason after I plop the CD in and go through the first steps of installation, the installer does... nothing. It acts like it is going to install, and even shows the first little blue block of the loading bar. However, it does nothing from there. I have tried installing it four times now, and I let it sit there for about 15 minutes before closing it. I have no clue what the deal is.

I am using a laptop with Windows Vista. I checked out the system requirements and am fairly certain that thats not the problem. My processor is better than the recommended, I have more than enough RAM, I have a CD-ROM Drive and I have plenty of hard drive space. I'm pretty sure that my soundcard is DirectX 9.0 compatible. I have DirectX 10 on my comp. The only thing I am not certain about is the video card. I ran dxdiag and it said my video card is a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I don't think a video card would affect the installation, but I am not positive.

Any help with this problem would be appreciated. Oh, and I did check out the Civ 4 support website, but couldn't find anything pertaining to my problem. Thanks in advance.

I cannot find the installshield folder anywhere. I ran a search as well and it came up with nothing. Any other ideas on where the folder may be or what else may alleviate my problem?

Ok, I found the folder. But, what is it exactly that I should rename? The whole folder or just something inside the folder? And what should I rename it? Sorry, I am okay enough with computers to get myself into trouble but not good enough to get myself out of trouble, if you know what I mean. Thanks a lot for all of your help.

Sorry for the double post, but I just found that the installer did in fact create the civ iv folder inside the firaxis games folder and even the readme for civ iv. so, my question is, how long does it normally take to install? Am I just not giving it enough time or what? Also, just to be completely sure about this, will the game operate on Windows Vista?

1) if you just rename the installshield folder to whatever (even just adding a letter at the end of the name) the installer will recreate it with its own version of installshield which sometimes works better.
2) it takes a while to install but will give progress in terms of a progress bar pretty frequently - so just let it sit 10-15 minutes, if it does not progress it probably hangs.
3) Civ4 will usually work on Vista though you should install the 1.61 and AFTER that the 1.74 patches (available from this site (main page)) :)
