I have never installed a mod before. I have downloaded the latest CIV Gold Mod and have no idea how to install it. Help?

You've downloaded it, right?
You have it somewhere, it's a .zip file, right?
Rightclick on the file, click "extract here". This will create a new folder, called somehow "civ gold" or so.
Cut this folder out, go to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civ4\BtS\Mods (where also the other mods like Afterworld and Rhyse And Fall are), and paste it there.
Then start civ, click "advanced", "load a mod", "civgold", and wait, until it is loaded. Done

I appreciate the reply. I actually downloaded an executable file. It was as simple as running it. It installed itself in the appropriate place.
I do have another question though. Can I play using this Mod in an Internet game? Do the other players need the Mod installed too?

Yes, and yes.
CivGold should work in MP, because it's "just" more civs.
And in generall, to play MP everbody needs the same version of civ, including the same version of the mod, if you want to play one.
