This has been happening a while.. see attached pic.. I've just been to lazy to try and fix it because it's really just an annoyance.

My monitor turns off automatically after 1 hour idle (goes to screen saver after 5 min). When I come back and start using it again, it'll do this. The longer it's been off, the longer/more it does it. It's only really bad like in the pic when it's been at least overnight. It'll do it for maybe 3-4 min, then it's ok.

Also interesting, it only does it with a program window up. Drop back to the desktop, and it stops.

-I'm 99% sure it's the monitor itself, not video card or driver. My dad has the same kind of monitor (diff vid card) and his also does it some, but nowhere near as bad
-I'm also pretty sure it's not magnetic interference. The only thing that could cause would be wall wiring, but I never have any flicker that normally comes from something magnetic.

I think you'd be best to try a different monitor on you machine, and then try that monitor on a machine that you know works. Just to confirm where the problem lies.

Funky. Does it just look like that? Or does it actually go in a wave effect?(actually moving)
You could always try De-Guassing your monitor -- there should/may be an option on the monitor menu thingie. Besides that, the only thing I can think of is the magnetic interference - which you say you don't have. Only the wall wiring?? Do you not have speakers? -- then again, this shouldn't matter as you presumably don't move them, thus it can't be the case.

It sounds more like a graphics card defect, like Wolfe said, you should try it with another monitor, see if it still happens.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

It's actually a wave effect.
Degauss has no effect on it.
Yes, I have speakers but the satellites are magneticaly sheilded and the sub is about 4.5 ft from the monitor (manual says anything over 2 ft is fine). I know it's not them, because they're always turned off unless I'm playing a game or listening to music- 99% of the time this is happening I'm doing neither of those.

I should probably try another moniter with it, but the only other one available has been observed doing the same thing.

Your monitor is posessed ! ;)

You don't happen to have mobile phone near by the monitor, they can sometimes to weird things to monitiors.

try to borrow someone elses monitor and see if it still does it.

if it is the monitor, i hope it's still under warrantee :)

Bah, nothing wrong with it. It goes away, as you stated. So long as the Monitor still works, everything is good.

Now, on the other hand, it could be like a leak, and electrons could be pouring out, and damaging stuff, or something . . . apparently . . .

(ok, THAT last bit made NO sense)
