This is a little quirk I found out today. Religious Shrines normally provide 4 :culture:. As we know, Wonders double their culture after 1000 years, making them give 8 :culture:. In my current game, I was going for a Cultural victory, with a good amount of wonders divided among three cities. Two of the cities were making approximately 65 CPT, while one was only making 55 CPT. I decided to catch that one up by building the Sistine Chapel in it to give it +10 :culture:, and then another +10 in all my cities(5 each from Temple and Monastery). After building it, I saw my cities had 65 CPT, another 65 CPT, and 75 CPT. Wait a minute... 75? How did that happen? Well, that was the city I founded Confucainism in...

It turns out, Shrines count as religious buildings, so they get the bonuses from AP, Sankore and Sistine. Not very surprising. What is surprising is that the +5 Culture from Sistine is doubled on the Shrines(Since they are a Wonder). Insteading of producing 8+5 :culture: for a total of 13, my Shrine was making 8+10 :culture:, for a total of 18. A surprise for me, but a pleasant one nonetheless.

Not only that, but they give 2 hammers with the Apostolic Palace. Note that all of this only applies if the Shrine is of your state religion. Other Shrines don't get all the perks.

The 2 Hammers on Temples (all religious buildings) come if the Apostolic Palaca is in the same Religion.

I don't think it is surprising, that the Holy Shrine of a Religion being a 'religious building' ?
