Who says you can't get lucky again ;)

It's not that bad, but all that tundra to the North of you pretty much sucks.

Never seen those before. I haven't even seen Expansionist civs with upgraded Scouts (I think they all die at some point and they stop building more, or something)

Only seen explorers a few times. I have used them maybe in three games and we used them once for sure in an SG to scout out land.

I used Explorers once, just to test 'em, but I've certainly never seen the AI use them.

dominatr, how much are you selling your RNG for?

I read the article once about how useful Explorers can be for pillaging - basically a disposable unit but very useful in some games for removing resources from the AI. I also like them as placekeepers when waiting for a tech to come in. :D

You have the best RNG ever. Every map I've loaded in the past few months has been terrible. I am jelly.

I didn't realize the AIs would even build these. Has anyone else seen these before?

This also made me think. I have had trouble spotting Persian cities, not wanting my cavalry to get attacked. Explorers can help you find where cities lie before you can trade for maps. Not all that useful, and probably not worth the cost, but still.

Never seen them, except one of my own is captured. Maybe Xerxes captured a scout from another AI and then upgraded it?

I build them however. A lot in fact, but that is mainly to export shields from cities which have nothing to do anymore. But they are useful otherwise too as they move very fast and can easily recon the map. And not only to see where the cities are, but also to see what defenders are there, where all the roads are, if troops are coming your way etc. But you can also use them to block units and delay impending attacks a little (Don't try this if you are at war already). They can pillage and they disband cleanly (20 > 5).

Xerxes isn't Expansionist...

If you have military alliances and a friendly AI seems close to capturing the hostile tribe's city (and you want it, of course, instead), the explorer might help you here... I think the War Academy article says this come to think of it. I've had that problem a lot of late. Can you capture explorers if you're non-expansionist or do they just die like scouts?

Yes you can capture them, but you need Astronomy.

...or what to do with your workers when the game is about to be won and their actions are no more relevant: :crazyeye:

Actually both are great for regulating food in 20K cities/metros.

well i've used #1 in a town with granary and 7 fpt, basically trading the two wasted food units for two shields. #2 was just for fun :D
