It costs $30 with a color photo, and requires you to send a copy of a student ID, though many don't have birthdays. There's also something called a youth ID, and I think you don't need to be a student or even an adult to get one, but I don't know if you can get one and be over 18.

Also, you'll notice this disclaimer:

"I acknowledge that the above information is true and correct; should it be determined that it is false I agree to pay US$2,500 to ISE Cards, Inc. in lieu of civil prosecution. I further understand that ISE Cards, Inc. will notify appropriate law enforcement authorities for possible criminal prosecution."

However, according to a lawyer that I know with over twenty years of experience, this section (and other penalty clauses) is unenforceable since lying wouldn't cause actual damages to the International Student Exchange.

Doesnt apply to me. Though I mainly use a Driver's Licence as an ID. Though I may plan to get a Passport in the future.

What's wrong with a plain old driving licence?

people lying (and thus getting busted) could = less people getting IDs. Thus, the ISE loses business, and has standing. I'm pretty sure a good lawyer could find a way to get standing.

I won't get one. I turn 21 in only a few months, and there is a bar I can't get into, I'll just arrange a gig there.

I don't understand, what's the point of this? Oo, it's international, that makes it inherently better.

Hey, nice!

They usually give discounts to students, so now I can show that instead of my driver's permit! :)

(I'm not getting one, though, since it costs $25.00 :undecide:)

No? If the point is to drink alcohol, I think you have your priorities just a little out of place.

What are you talking about? Nothing's wrong with alcohol use, especially for legal adults like myself.

Do you even know any good lawyers? Ask them to read it, then see what they think.

I had one once, but the drinking age in Louisiana was 18 at the time so I used my real birthday. Then they raised in to 21 when I was 20. Shoulda lied, d'oh!

Well. What exactly does this ID do? The fact that you stressed legal drinking age in your poll suggests quite strongly that this has to do with drinking underage.

And how many bars will accept a student ID?

(Well, around here they would...)

Depends on the jurisdiction. If state and local laws put all blame on the holder of a fake ID it isn't a problem. But some places will go after the bartender or the bar even if the ID is realistic...those places would be extremely strict.

If you were an average, hard-working corner store owner, would you turn away adults with false ages on real I.D.'s?

I know, they could get fined for selling alcohol to minors and young adults, but they won't get fined if someone presents a real ID and tricks them. The only way they possibly would be is if there's a cop in the store that isn't the minor/young adult, and the cop asks the purchaser to present their state-issued ID, and it's in a state where you must present your ID to a cop if you have it on you and they ask you to, and you're stupid enough to not say "I forgot my driver's license at home." Even then, the store owner would probably get off. He definitely would in California, which is usually a big "law & order"/"tough on crime" state.

This ID worked for my dad in the 1980's. I was excited and called my best friend and he already knew about it. At his university, all of the foreign students have these cards and they all say they're 21, and they're allowed into clubs, can buy alcohol at stores, etc.

Yes.

I will never understand how can a civilized country function without real citizen ID's. It must be a chaos.

Anyway, I have ISIC already, every student at our uni gets it.

(another thing I'll never understand is how can a civilized country allow people to vote, but not drink alcohol  )

It allows you to buy alcohol and enter dance clubs. What deeper meaning are you hoping to see?
