Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Intrateam Game of the Month! Originally proposed to classical_hero in this thread, I have stepped up create a map and host the game. This will be played exclusively by team members, in hopes of improving the level of play of all who join. See here for a detailed guide on the standard GOTM procedure. Since most people here don't have time to play an entire game in a month, we will be... more lenient with deadlines.

We will play, just like in the real thing, as Mansa Musa of India. Many other elements have been "borrowed" from the ISDG - you will play against eight rivals, with unrestricted leaders, no goody huts, no random events.

    Player: Mansa Musa of India
    Map Size: Large
    Map Type: Fractal
    Difficulty: Noble
    Starting Era: Ancient
    Speed: Normal
Options: Unrestricted Leaders, No Tribal Villages, No Random Events
    Victory Conditions: All Enabled

The main focus of this GOTM is improvement. Thus, it is highly encouraged that players keep detailed logs of their games, and actively post and discuss their games in the upcoming spoiler threads. The more you write about your game, the more others can help you improve.

Like all GOTMs, however, there will still be a competitive element. After all of the saves have been received, the results will be tabulated and the awards will be given out.

    Spoiler Starting Location :

For those that feel uncomfortable at Noble, and for those that are bored by the prospect of a game on Noble, there are four different classes:

Conquest Class: The player starts with Bronze Working, to help get started on chopping the forests.

Open Class: The player receives no advantages or disadvantages.

Predator Class: About half of the forests around your starting location have been cleared or turned to jungle. Some extra jungles have been added in too, just for fun.

Demigod Class: The player receives the same disadvantages as in the Predator class, but the AIs receive some considerable bonuses. Be extra cautious if you are in a rushing mood...

    How to Participate:

The saves will be posted on December 13. Simply download the class of your choice, and start playing! Remember to keep notes, and don't cheat! Spoilers will be posted shortly afterwards for those who have reached certain milestones in the game, and the deadline for submitting your save will likely be sometime in February.

Once you have finished (whether you won or lost) your game, you can submit it by emailing it to bowsling@gmail.com.

    Good luck! :goodjob:

Thanks Bowsling. One question though, do we need to load a mod when we play?

I still don't really get what we should do...

Do I get it right if:

    * I make a new thread: GOTM - Arkipeller's Game.
Do a turn, talk about possibilities and why I chose as I did.
    Wait for comments
Do new turn, post new pictures, await new comments

and so on and so on

Just keep details of of your go and when it is most people have played until 1AD< then we post and update on what we did for those turns and how we got better. Hopefully we can see some flaws in our game and make improvements. We don't have to be as detailed as we are for this ISDG game we are currently playing.

well I gave it really quick go to 25 BC with the intent of just rexing... finished CS this turn sitting at 14 cities there are still some places south which i would eventually settle...

i guess seeing the land now that

    Spoiler :

one could try for some early domination here

start was SIP, agri->AH-->BW-->pottery, settled city 2 north from capital for overlap with 9 riverside tiles clear commerce city, I actually wasn't sure if it wouldn't be wise to move the capital to the city 2, but didn't move.

capital will be next turn size 12 which is good.

I quickcived so there is tons of room for improvement, but I just had the REX idea which I always have on Noble... even though if someone says I should have just HA rushed the continent I would say 'yes it is of course possible'

Not sure when I will have the time to play the game, but I think dificulty level of noble is not good. I though we will want to somewhat mimicry the real ISDG game, which with Emperor dificulty is quite different stuff. Is there a way to be changed the dificulty in already made save game?

Or maybe we just make the next one team GOTM Emperor and with land more look alike like the real ISDG where 14 cities and land for more would be impossible? Or it is not intended to look alike the ISDG?

I did not realise it was on noble settings. One thing I was expecting was their to be no tech trading at all.

Will there be separate spoiler threads for this game? I've never done a GOTM before, so not sure how that goes. I started the game late and have only picked it back up once or twice, but I'll probably hit 1AD next time I play, and I've been taking notes / screenshots, so I thought that was where I'd pause and share.

Noble difficulty and TT definitely makes this much different than the real game, but it's fun playing a game that I know other team members are also playing. Noble is below my usual difficulty level, so I probably should have played the Predator class, but oh well. I'm actually embarassed about some of the :smoke: decisions I've made, so I'll just put out the disclaimer that I was playing quickly not paying too close attention. Looking forward to the real experts showing me ways to improve.

I didn't think that the interest level was enough to justify cluttering the forum with spoiler threads. Just post spoilers in spoiler tags. :)

I would love this to be a regular feature, but I would also love if we keep the noble difficulty as I would not be able to beat the AI on Emperor. If this becomes a regular feature could we get one noble and one emperor game in the future, so that even crappy players like me can participate and feel like having a chance at beating the AI? :)

Ooh, I'd not noticed this somehow. I have a paper deadline in a few days (so not much time free of an evening), but after that I'll give it a go.

I just hit 1AD in the GOTM. Here is a summary of my progress so far.

    Spoiler :
    Here's the starting screenshot again:
    Spoiler :

First thing I thought is all those forests are awesome for India's Fast Worker. I briefly considered moving onto the PH for a faster FW build, but then I realized I would have nothing to do with it while I finished researching BW or AH. SIP it is, which definitely turned out to be the better choice.

    Spoiler :

An extra riverside pig and dry wheat? Yes thank you! That also pretty much seals in Agri-->AH-->BW as the initial tech path. Hammurabi founds Buddhism on T9, I meet Boudica on T10, Willem founds Hinduism T11, and I meet Darius on T13.

    Spoiler :

After this I stop taking such detailed notes. By turn 50, I have three cities and things are looking good.

    Spoiler :

City 2 is going to be my main commerce city, plus I used the forests to chop out some wonders. City 3 was settled mainly for gold and copper. You can see from the lack of roads that I'm already short on worker turns with 3 FW's for 3 cities.

    Spoiler :

There's my little empire at T80. City 4 (Vijay) was probably a mistake, as it has NO RESOURCES in the BFC. I saw the FP for a food surplus and all those hills, and thought this would be a good soldier pump. City 5 (Patal) shares a couple FP cottages with Delhi, plus brings in Horses. You can see the two settlers on their way to the good Corn / 2xGold / Wine city, and in the north a spot I felt would be another good production city with all those hills.

On T92 there was a Barb warrior that came up next to my newest city. I attacked out with the garrison Chariot with 99+% odds.

    Spoiler :

Of course I lost, leaving the city undefended. I had to set the game aside for a little bit at this point. Not happy about losing a city at those odds. :(

    Spoiler :

Dare I take this shot? Only 99.1% odds of cleaning up the injured barb.

Anyways, I carried on. It was a brand new city settled in a less-than-ideal location, plus I took a barb city in the north around this same time, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Of course Boudica took advantage and resettled that spot as I had a new settler on the way. Here's my growing empire on T100.

    Spoiler :

You can see I'm building the Pyramids. Needed somewhere to put all those trees. Oh, I also chopped out Stonehenge in Delhi and Oracled CoL for Confucianism. That brings us to T115, 1AD.

    Spoiler :

I'm at 11 cities, running a hybrid Cottage / (Rep-boosted) Specialist economy. Overall, I've got to say I feel the map is lacking in food resources, which makes a Specialist economy harder to run, so I'm not too sure what my logic was there. I'm getting 200+ GNP when I run 100% science, and collecting 47 gold at 0%. The plan right now is to tech Machinery while slow-building catapults, then stock up on macemen to take out Boudica (Zulu). That should be easy enough since they're the smallest nation. Then I'll turn north towards Darius (Aztec). All this while slowly filling out all the crap tundra to my south. There are a few happy resources down there I could get, but I don't really need the happy.

    Spoiler :
    .

Oh right, and I'll probably go for Hanging Gardens in my cap to get rid of the last lingering forests.

    Here's my tech situation.

    Spoiler :

    And finally, the demos.

    Spoiler :

That's the picture that really shows why this game is already won. The gap between me and the rival best is just going to keep widening as I take out my neighbors and tech way faster than anyone else. I've never really been good at manipulating the ai or abusing tech trades, but I have been picking up any old techs the ai's research while I'm getting stuff way ahead of them. Like I said earlier, I should have played the emperor save, but I didn't see it until I was already almost 50 turns in. That, or taken one of the handicap saves, but I didn't want to give up all those delicious forests!

If anyone has any requests for a specific victory type, I'll take suggestions. Otherwise I'll probably just keep moving north until I get a conquest or domination win.

Like I've said, I've never played a GOTM before, so I don't know what type of feedback is appropriate, but I'd love to get comments. For example, any suggestions for a better dotmap? I really wasn't happy with where my cities ended up. I orphaned the fish up north because I kept the Barb city instead of razing it and planting where I wanted to get the fish. Also, I've been itching to go to war for awhile, but opted to build infrastructure instead. Any comments on that decision? Would I have been better off to whip out an army and take down my neighbors earlier? I really probably didn't need all these wonders. Also feel free to ask any questions, I'm happy to answer.

Just finished the game. Many thanks to Bowsling for creating the map and sponsoring the game. I had a real fun time with it. Did anyone else play this one out?

    Spoiler :
Delayed war a little longer past 1AD to finish up Forges in most of my cities, plus libraries in the commerce cities and barracks in the hammer cities. I finally attacked the Zulu with Maces around T130. Would have finished them off faster, except they planted a city down in the south that I didn't know about.

    Spoiler :

By this time I've gotten Knights and have repositioned my main strength up to the north. I make short order of the Aztecs.

    Spoiler :

At this point I realize I still have a lot of back territory to fill, so I take another break to develop my newly gained spoils and finish settling all the land that I can peacefully. I also discovered Isabella on her own little island off the former Zulu lands.

    Spoiler :

At T190, I'm ready to go back on the offensive. Elizabeth is the most natural target, but she's been my best bud this whole game, so I go for Pacal instead. I think I'm going to finish him off on T202, but turns out he settled an island that I can't reach without popping the culture of one of his cities I just took, so I offer peace for all his gold and world map while I wait for the city to come out of revolt and pop borders. In the meantime, I turn my attention to Willem of Maya, who's been quietly wonder-whoring and creeping up the scoreboard.

    Spoiler :

It should be pretty obvious in those pictures, but these battles were just jokes. I was fighting Longbows and Maces with Cavalry and Rifles. At any rate, I popped those borders and sail on over to finish off Pacal of the Egyptians.

    Spoiler :

Oh, here's a shot of Isabella's island. Had to DOW to burn a city that she tried to plant on my island, so I took the opportunity to send in a trireme and knight to scope out her lands.

    Spoiler :

Now, I know Elizabeth's been my best friend in the whole world, but looking at the victory conditions, something's gotta give.

    Spoiler :

I'm about 15% away from having enough land for Conquest (closer to 10% when my new cities come out of revolt), and dear old Elizabeth's got just about that much land herself. Having just conquered all her neighbors, I've got plenty of directions to strike. Here's the battle plan.

    Spoiler :

And, everything goes according to plan.

    Spoiler :

    That's all, folks.

    Spoiler :

Any comments / feedback / suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

Impressive! If it were me, I probably would have gone for the Aztecs first, given how nice the land in between them and India was. Zululand obviously was an easy target, though. I probably shouldn't have lined all of the civs up in a row like that, it just makes domination the obvious VC.
