Invasive new ads

There are some new ads popping up that are failing and causing IE to crash. An error pops up regarding an infinite loop, and if you hit 'ok' it keeps popping up until IE crashes.

There shouldn't be popups in the forums ever. If this happens, please take a screen shot of the top and bottom ads (if possible) so that the admins can let Telefragged know which ad to pull.

This recently happened, see attached image. (first time ever on this site).

I just got a very bad ad when using IE 8. It was reloading the ads numerous times, and I even got a few video ad popups. I have reported them to Telefragged, along with a few screenshots (attached). We are definitely not supposed to get these kind of abusive ads. If problem persist, I will have to do something about it myself.

If you encounter abusive ads like that, please take screenshots of the top and bottom ads (and the right vertical banner ad if on main site) and post here whenever possible.

EDIT: I have temporarily switched the ads to Google Adsense ads for now.

I can confirm the existence of both problems.

I only get popup ads when I'm redirected from the takeover ad (which is empty anyway) - perhaps the problem is there. There appears to be no link to the ads at the top and bottom of the screen - they have been different each time, and sometimes they haven't loaded, and displayed a 404 error instead.

Ok, I got it again and took a screenie. I needed to use ctrl-alt-delete to avoid pressing the 'Ok' button on the popup, so I couldn't do alot of other investigation. The status bar at the bottom of the screenie was flipping to numerous urls like crazy.

I just got the same crap with clicking OK about an infinite loop issue. The thread I was looking at LOCKED the browser for several minutes. I keep seeing downloading messages in the status bar such as current.com/movies. The toture finally ended went the below add took OVER that page. I was no longer browsing the forum!

I couldn't get any screenshots of the first issue as my browser was to locked up to do so.

Sorry about that, LK. I have reported to Telefragged. Such infinite loading ad is worst of the bad ads and is not acceptable.

I encountered some infinite loading ads myself in the last several days, usually when browsing with IE. I also couldn't do anything in the browser when it was doing the infinite ad loading. I have reported to Telefragged a couple times about this problem.

CFC has some serious problems with malware from what I have experienced. I don't know what can be done but something needs to be done to prevent this. I say if UGO has been responsible for posting some bad ads then they need to go lock stock and barrel. Until UGO gets their act together they should be banned from the Internet. Rewarding UGO for such pathetic service is wrong under any form of economic system.

I'm still on adblock waiting until I can send money. Sorry TF! Get that rolling and I'll jump right in.

OK. Just now went back to the forums after my browser started to go crazy one time and now I was redirected to this ad this time. I don't know what banner was displayed because my screen went crazy for awhile DLing stuff and then got redirected. I beginning to feel VERY unsecure at CFC.

Telefragged needs to get on the ball and get rid of this stuff.

I can understand that, Gary. I have been emailing Telefragged for the last several days about these ad problem, and included a bunch of screenshots.

I will continue to work with them and pressure them until these abusive ads are banned. We certainly can not afford to display such ads for long period of time.

Some ads appear to include some annoying beep noise. Every now and then I start getting a constant beep ... beep ... beep ... beep ... and that really gets me away. I've even left posts unwritten and just quickly escape when I've got such an ad. It doesn't seem to be linked to a specific ad, it just comes randomly.

Running Chrome if that matters.

I keep getting an ad for Butlins that changes to a page with just the ad on it, making it virtually impossible to use the forum.

I'm going to have to block the ads on the site if this persists.

EDIT: This is the ad in question http://bs.serving-sys.com/burstingp...28&h=90&ncu=1244541731085%c1244541731085&ord=[timestamp]

EDIT: Hmm can't find a way to block it, help!

EDIT2: Only seems to affect Firefox :( And since I last used IE it seems to have updated itself and now the font on this site is so small even at largest text size setting it is making my eyes hurt :(

:agree: I am not giving up on using Firefox and adblock.

Got redirected again to another ad page. I'd post a screenshot but what's the use. Telefragged and UGO don't seem to care. I for one just love to click on Civfanatics only to go to some ridiculous ad page I'm not even remotely interested in.

What's worse is that even if you go back you see the forum for about 3 seconds and then it takes you to the ad page again.

I emailed Telefragged about it today and they said UGO is investigating it.

That is correct, UGO is investigating not only the ads themselves but also the code which we use to deliver them. We obviously have an issue and we are trying to determine the root cause at this time.

Please be patient with us as we make changes and please continue to report abnormalities such as this. It is through your feedback that we are able to fix issues that may arise.

Thanks,

-Paul
