So far I've only received a few savegames . Not enough to make interesting statistics or even fill the ranking on the GOTM-page (not that that matters). Who is still playing the first GOTM and hasn't sent me his game, and who will play the next one? Does every CivFanatic know about the GotM?

I'll e-mail mine tonight.

It was disappointing. I made it to 2020 but the English Nuked me about 15 years before I was to retire....I was going for a peace bonus So my 18% dropped to 13%.

I do have one question, do we have to "finish" the game??? Ex. I had 18% in 1780 AD so could I just send that game and get credit or do I have to finish = defeated, conquer, spaceship, or retire?

Corn, you have to finish the game. It allows more meaningful comparison. It'd be a mess if we allow players submit unfinished games..

Oh I did finish the game....what I said was for clarification to other members. I was going to submit the final game anyway. 1AD, 1360AD and 2020AD, (took the second one a little late )

It wouldn't be fair to submit unfinished games. I was just checking the policy.

Let me point out that when the results are released, the GotM is closed, which will the 1st of the every month. Or at least that's what I try to do. When that date has passed and the results are still only on my harddisk, you're lucky, but I wouldn't try if I were you.

But this weekend would be perfectly on time.

You haven't got mine yet. That's probably because this rates as one of my worst! I won't win. I may survive. Then maybe not. Am into 20th century, but if I don't survive, I guess you don't want the saves

I might do something fun with the savegames of 'dead' players, but...no, if you lost the game, you don't have to send the savegame.

B.t.w. do send the savegames of 1 and 1000 AD, 'cause I can make some nice stats of it! If you forget to save it at that time you'll miss your own stats (like me ). I case you forget to save: 10 turns off the year would be acceptable, but not more (sorry, CornMaster).

Finished the game. Survived till 2002 before being wasted by the Mongols. Of course the game still gave me a score: 2%! (If you used the scoring system for defeats, the time scaling would have to be the inverse of that for wins.)

So I won't send you the savegame, but your last message was ambiguous. Surely you don't want the 1 CE and 1000 CE saves for defeats (?).

I wonder if there are others like me who screwed it on this occasion. Perhaps they are staying quiet rather than suffer the ignominy of public humiliation.

I am almost done whit mine and I must say it's going rely good. And Matrix, you should get it by this weekend.

This is my cool book:
John Valdez, vladmir_illych_lenin, Thunderfall, shadowdale, stormerne, Stellar Converter

Well Stormerne, actually, I could use your savegames of 1 and 1000 AD. And I believe there was someone else who was a bit too excited and got killed in a very early stage, but I don't know who that was. Anyway, you're not alone.

But now I come to think about it, I think it should be useful to know how many players didn't make it this GotM. So everyone who was killed: please mail me what year and your savegames of the 1 and 1000 AD. :D

But what if someone didn't make it to 1AD? Huh??? What then???

And are you saying that you won't accept my game??? You need to explain the policy before we finish the game. You better accept my game (maybe not for full stats but at least for scoring) because I DID finish, and it very rare that I finish a game of Civ 2 and it's my first game at Emperor where I didn't get slaughtered .

But I wish you luck and can't wait to see the final web page.

Maybe I haven't been clear. You will be acounted for and you will come in the ranking. Only I'll give special statistics of everyones progress in the year 1 and 1000, which however has nothing do to with any ranking whatsoever. So if you're killed before 1 AD, I only want to know in what year you're killed; nothing more. And you don't have to submit any savegame.

I've given up on this crappy map. I've seen the boasts of those who cheated their way through to victory, and I'm not impressed. The situation on that map is grimmer than Ashe's in Army of Darkness. He was surrounded by evil, lost in time, and low on gas. That's a picnic compared to the nigh-worthless terrain one starts on in GotM #1. The best starting location has three frickin' mountains, and the other nearby site has desert and jungle! Did you pick that sh1tty a map just to challenge the habitual cheaters? Could we have a separate map for the people with too much pride to cheat at solitaire?

Did you get mine from thunderfall?

Sorry to hear you had a bad go of it, Fearless Leader2, but frankly I enjoyed the challenge. It WAS a very tough game at the beginning, yes. But it IS possible to finish it without cheating, as I (and others, I assume) did.

I think you would find it more useful and fulfilling to explore different strategies for winning--specifically, to look at where YOU went wrong--rather than imply that those of us that managed to succeed did so by cheating.

If at first you don't succeed...

I don't want to finish. I don't want to survive. I want to WIN, dammit! When the bloody English are landing shiploads of elite units twenty turns into the game, and the Zulus come pouring down shortly after, and the Mongols show sometime between, while the Egyptians are off on the other side of the planet building Women's Suffrage in 1200 AD, it's kinda hard to win, if by kinda hard, you mean impossible unless you use one of these patented cheating methods. Ah, screw it. I'll treat the map as a One City Challlenge, and try it that way. MAybe then I'll win. Wouldn't THAT be a hoot?
