[Invitation] Learning Python

I thought I would throw down an invitation to see if anyone has interest to learn python with me, I already know a good deal of python language, and program mostly in C#, but the point to this exercise is to teach a few people from scratch, and to get feed back on my new wiki site(see my signature below).
I would like to cover the API in a lot more detail then I have seen on the regular wiki page (which is imo fairly incompleate), and provide a few code snipets, and tutorials that start from the ground up.
My personal failing right now is that I know very little of the Civ IV API, which is basically the command set that gets provided to Python from the Civ IV SDK, but I don't think it will take to long to pick up on it, as I have had to do this kind of thing many times before.

Anyhow if your interested in learning (or teaching) the ways of going about getting into python modding, I'd love your help with my page.

Its sole purpose is to aid the Civ IV modding community, here and elsewhere, and when the page is aproaching a V1.00.00 status I will be also looking for proper hosting, as the current one I have is for small thouroghfare only, and it will go down if bandwidth is exceeded, and if it does, then that will just be tough luck till the end of the month - sorry bout that.

If you do drop in to look at the wiki, keep in mind I only put it up this morning, but I have already brought up within it the tone, and perhaps even the goal of the wiki, one that I felt many other sites I visited were lacking in.

I would be interested in learning more about Python, I can merge mods with Python components with some success, but would love to learn more. I have no real programming experience. Is Python a good language to delve into for a first time coder?

Thanks,
ripple01

Some people would say yes definately, others would say no, there are much better ones to learn first, I personally think they are all much of a muchness, and you just learn what you have time to learn - then later, pick one to spec in.
Thanks for the reply, and looking forward to working with you.
I'll send you a PM when I get time (prolly later this morning)

I justed started learning python by accident. All I was gonna do was take the inquisitor out Gods of Old and so I could put it in my mod. But I it didn't work quite the way I wanted then one thing led to another... :crazyeye:

My only other programming experience was messin' around with Basic back on my C64.

Yes, I'm in. I definitely want to learn more about the language, especially in a Civ IV modding context. I'm trying to get some stuff done for random events modding, but it would be nice to know more about Python, generally.

Well, imo we are going to need a place where we can communicate a bit easier than here, so I set up a temporary irc chat channel on quakenet.
The address for quakenet is irc.quakenet.org::6667-6669
and the channel name is #Civ4Moders
I'll be logged in there 24-hours a day for the next few days, see if anyone drops by...

Hey Feeder -- are you still hanging out at that IRC address? I'm sure everyone will have some time betwixt and between turkey and football this week to get some Pythonin' done....

May I announce my interest?
Sure, timezones make it a drag, but eh - never say never.

Actually no I havn't been, not sure if it was my connection or what - but I was having a lot of problems particularily with QuakeNet.
I will however jump back on there again for the next few days, maybe see a few people there, maybe...

It's hard to 'teach' python over the internet, but I've registered on the wiki and will provide assistance whenever I can. My first, very sincere suggestion is to smart small to avoid frustrating yourself. So many people come onto the forums here asking for help in implimenting some crazy new complicated game mechanic and end up just getting aggrivated.
