(CNN) -- Iran's Cabinet has authorized the construction of another 10 uranium enrichment plants, its state news agency announced Sunday, further defying international calls to halt its production of nuclear fuel.

The Iranian Cabinet approved existing plans for five more facilities similar to its current plant at Natanz and ordered planning for five more to begin, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported. The dispatch quoted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying that the new plants will be used to produce fuel for civilian nuclear power stations.

The move comes two days after the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog, passed a resolution demanding that Iran stop construction on a previously secret nuclear facility at Qom.

The IAEA also repeated calls for Iran to stop its uranium enrichment program. The agency said it would not comment on Sunday's announcement.

Iran has said its uranium enrichment program is aimed at producing fuel for civilian power plants. But the United States and other countries have accused Tehran of working toward a nuclear bomb, and the IAEA's Friday resolution stated that Iran's refusal to comply with international demands "does not contribute to the building of confidence."

Should anything be done about this?
Will Israel launch an air-strike?
Will the green protesters (anti-regime, not the eco-friendly kind) protest this decision as well?

The title is a bit misleading. They don't want more power plants, they want more enrichment facilities.

Which means more enriched uranium, which means more bombs in the future - either theirs or someone else's falling on these facilities ;)

I think Israel should get rid of its own nuclear bombs first-then launch an air-strike at Iran

Should Israel get rid of its nuclear bombs at the same time as the air-strike?

Why, yes, of course; I can already see the West Bank in ruins.:mischief:

Iran claims to want nuclear power and wants more nuclear power? coincidence? I think not

Before you get too excited at the prospect of killing millions of Muslims, keep in mind there is no evidence at present that Iran is attempting to produce nuclear weapons.

did the UN release its report on the "secret" enrichment facility?

wut? :crazyeye:

When are Israel gonna bomb them I don't want a nuke exploding in London :(:

I hope this doesn't escalate into another full-blown conflict. That's the last thing we need right now. There's nothing really standing in the way of Israel bombing the :):):):) out of Iran, but that would then mean that Iran would start launching missiles in retaliation. Even just conventional missiles can do a lot of damage. I get the feeling it's going to get worse before it gets any better.

I actually argue against a strike against Iran. It will happen anyway, sadly.

There is no proof in the form of "smoking gun", but there is plenty of indirect and some direct evidence.

No, there isn't. What there is plenty of is suspicion, but we live in a world where suspicion alone does not constitute a crime.

Nothing will come of this on the part of the US. Nor should we do anything about it.

Israel is another matter. Hopefully we can restrain them but with a hawkish nationalist like Nethanyu you never know. What if Israeli aircraft fly over Iraq without our permission? Are we going to shoot them down? I think not.

The evidence is that Iran is enriching uranium and we don't trust Iran. To go further and say they are enriching uranium to weapons grade is speculation.

Even Russia and China agreed to a resolution against Iran.

It seems that only Iran believes Iran's BS. They don't need 12 enrichment facilities to power 1 plant, especially when they are being offered the fuel from other countries. While we do not have a signed document from the mullah-master stating "we want nukes", it doesn't take a genius to see what is happening and pretty much the entire civilized world agrees that Iran's actions are way out of line.

Then again, some people play cards with just one... the race/religion card. And reasoning with them is probably pointless. Someone cue the "That's Racist" youtube clip.

Whatever :coffee: Anyone who has followed the situation and actually knows something about it must reach the right conclusion, which is that there is no way this programme could be purely peaceful.
