Irrational District/Wonder Placement for Aesthetic Reasons

I've seen a few players plan their cities' districts and wonders for just how good they look together. Here are some of my ideal yet irrational "district/wonder combos":
  • Oracle next to a Holy Site with a Shrine
  • Venetian Arsenal or Broadway next to a City Center (see example)
  • Kilwa Kisiwani next to a Harbor
  • No Mines or Farms next to the Government Plaza or the Diplomatic Quarter (though an argument could be made that the Government Plaza should be surrounded by districts anyway)
  • Government Plaza, Diplomatic Quarter, Theater Squares, and Holy Sites shouldn't be next to Industrial Zones (though another argument can be made this should be done anyway if you're playing the Appeals game)
  • Entertainment Complex next to a Water Park
  • Spaceport next to an Aerodrome with an Airport and a Harbor with a Seaport
  • Colosseum next to Estádio do Maracanã
  • Statue of Liberty next to Colossus
I think these self-imposed restrictions doesn't lower the quality of my yields... too much. :p What are some of your anti-scruples?

Districts adjacent to City Center and adjacent to each other. Looks better as it gives the city more city-ish vibe, isn't that weird decision as it maximizes usefulness of Spy in City Center (protecting Governor and all adjacent Districts). But still dumb as you may find yourself trading 4S Campus for 1-2S Campus.

Even though I know it's super optimal for a lot of reasons, I hate settling cities that are only four tiles apart from each other. Just makes my empire look too urban and my districts look too redundant.

I dunno... I'm partial to super-urbanized districts like the one I made here has the Maya.

It features a mega-Campus and a mega-Industrial Zone district clusters.

Well, you get minor bonuses for adjacency districts anyways.

Also with Rationalism being useless except for a handful of civs now, it's not that big of a deal anyways. You will probably not lose any games because of this.

not exactly what OP's talking about, but the AI loves to build dams and other districts on rivers that already have the Great Bath - certainly irrational district placement, tho the only aesthetic it gives off is one of incompetence and squandered opportunities

more on-topic, i love building petra next to oases and commercial hubs - works well with a mod i use that gives commercial hubs a major adjacency bonus from oases

That reminds me, building Petra and Potala Palace nested between Mountains looks pretty neat, though it squanders a high adjacency Holy Site or Campus tile.

Yes I like placing districts next to the city centre because it adds a sprawl effect where additional buildings appear around the district.

Also neighbourhoods close to the city rather than some far flung location with high appeal. It doesnt matter how pretty the place you live is if you have a massive commute to work!

I Always try to do some layout like this in the city with the government plaza with Big Ben and the Hungarian Parliament Building, preferably within my original capital

Also every time I make the Bolshoi Theater, I try to make sure there is a theater square in front of it, and if possible have either Broadway or the Eiffel tower in front of that theater district. Also, I usually don't care about placing wonders from different areas next to each other because I love the idea of recreating the civ IV box art...

For me the Govt Plaza MUST be build in the capital city, only put mines over resources and I always put ski resorts next to campuses.

For me I can't bring myself to build districts if there aren't any good spots for them. I used to hate making Theater Squares because it was mostly impossible to get decent adjacencies for them without wonders, but now they at least have the Entertainment Complex major adjacency which allows me to make them now. Commercial hubs are still a problem though, as they just have rivers and the harbor, which is rather limiting.
I guess it's not exactly aesthetics, but it does cause me to play suboptimally for the sake of pursuing a specific ideal.

It is the Maya, so they're good at that sort of thing.
What mod are you using, with the red bell and everything?
