Is charging 20 dollars for a CD ridiculous?

Well, with £5000 on your sound system, you're getting into a different world than I'm in, my friend, and I would also have to rely on others' testimony. From what I've heard, for the same amount of money, you're still far better with a proper SA-CD & hi-fi set-up, than relying on PCs. (Actually, you may well be better back with vinyl and the old Linn Sondek.)

Anyway, my previous post was really only commenting on my own personal circumstances, and, with the hi-fi and PC set-ups I have, the sound quality and listening experience are far better on the CD player than with the PC set-up.

Any comment, G&T, on my becoming the first person of your acquaintance to still resolutely pay for their music ?

Dammit I lost my reply  so here are the billit points.

1 - My Amp is a pile of poop. No moral high ground here.

2 - If you were aiming at spending 5k on a home hi-fi, Im sure your could come up with a better soloution than my mates have. People tend to have bits of kit for a reason and the whole thing just acumilates.

3 - People obsessive about music dont bother to plug in their 1210's to play vinyl if they have ripped it to MP3. If the difference is so marginal they cannot be bothered to play with the wires (and you know they just love playing with wires) Im sure a meer mortal like me will be fine.

4 - Glad someone is paying for music :goodjob: When they stop trying to charge me GDP15-18 I'll be right next to you at Virgin.

piracy is not a crime.

Well, actually, it is. Do you mean it shouldn't be a crime ? And if so, is it only the area of music that you think there shouldn't be copyright protection of original expression, or do you feel that photocopying of books and copying of movies is fair game as well ?

In Denmark, the standard price for new CDs (released within the last year or so) is 150 kr., which is about 28 dollars.

And people actually pay that much?

i guess if you consider average income, there'll be almost no difference between 28 dollars in denmark for a dane and 20 dollars in the us for a us-citizen...

There's a solution: iTunes. Everything on iTunes is cheaper than the corresponding CD. I never buy CDs anymore.
