Is Civ6 PBEM not as popular as previous Civ games?

I have played dozens of Civ3 PBEMs, over 100 Civ4 PBEMs, and dozens of Civ5 PBEMs (thank you Giant Multiplayer Robot). But it's so hard to get a Civ6 PBEM. Yes, PBEMs take longer to play but I never had a problem in previous Civ games. Just curious as to why.

For those that don't know, PBEM is play by e-mail. Technically it's not PBEM anymore since you don't have to send/receive the games via e-mail like we did in Civ3 and Civ4, but it's the same concept. I guess it's called hotseat now.

You can get a free client at https://www.playyourdamnturn.com/

You should check out Realms Beyond. They currently have two PBEM's running, with more likely to start soon! They use the "play your damn turn" client too.

Haven't heard anything about a community here on Civfanatics, sadly, though you could try setting one up yourself of course.

Thanks Japper007, I had forgotten about RB. I use to play with them back in the early days of Civ4. I use to play the Epic games but was never very good at it. I will check them out.

I have started several PBEM games on the PYDT page but it's so hard to get people to join.

I actually thought, PBEM should have huge potential in Civ 6 as the AI so poor. The game mechanics are pretty solid and playing against humans, that should make for good games.
Why don't you 'advertise' a new game here and see how much interest would be generated. You would need a good map generator (someone who doesn't mind to setup a game for you, as you don't want a completely imbalanced map).
